Job Description

Financial Planning Analyst at Craftwork Financial Planning Analyst at Craftwork in Charlotte, North Carolina Posted in 1 day ago.

Type:

full-time

COMPANY OVERVIEW

Craftwork is building a modern, technology-enabled home services company, starting with residential painting. We employ our painters full-time and manage the entire customer experience using proprietary software, which allows us to consistently deliver excellent quality and service while creating meaningful careers in the trades. Founded in 2023, Craftwork currently operates in Charlotte and Raleigh, with plans to expand into three new markets over the next 12 months. We've grown to nearly 80 employees and have raised over $25M from investors including Y Combinator, Seven Seven Six, Slow Ventures, Forerunner Ventures, General Catalyst, and Lachy Groom.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Craftwork is looking for an Analyst to build and operate the financial planning, strategic analysis, and reporting systems that support our next stage of growth. This person will own the day-to-day FP&A work required to help Craftwork plan effectively and make informed decisions, including budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, cash and runway planning, headcount planning, and market-level financial performance. You'll maintain the models and reporting that give the company a clear view of where we are, where we're headed, and what is driving the difference. A central part of this role will be partnering closely with Growth, Operations, and company leadership to turn financial and operating data into strategic insight. You'll help evaluate market performance, hiring and investment decisions, demand-generation, operating efficiency, new market opportunities, and other questions that shape how Craftwork allocates capital and resources as we scale. You'll also work with Product and Engineering to translate critical P&L, budgeting, and financial reporting workflows into Craftwork's software so that financial visibility and functionality is increasingly embedded directly into the company's operating system. This is a hands-on, high-ownership role for someone who is analytical, curious, and energized by getting into the details. The right person will be equally comfortable updating a forecast, investigating a variance, building a new model from scratch, working across the organization, and spending time in the field to understand how the business actually works. You'll use that context to turn ambiguous questions into clear, actionable recommendations. The goal is not simply to report financial results, but to help the organization understand them, anticipate what comes next, and make better strategic decisions with greater confidence.

OUTCOMES

Implement a Trusted Financial Planning & Forecasting System You'll own the company's budgeting and forecasting processes, maintaining clear assumptions and an up-to-date view of expected performance across markets. You'll regularly compare actual results against the plan, identify meaningful variances, and update forecasts as new information emerges. Create Clear Visibility into Company & Market Performance You'll develop reporting that gives the organization a clear view of performance. You'll identify the financial and operating metrics that matter most and ensure they are consistently measured and understood. You'll investigate performance trends and help teams understand what is driving changes in revenue, margin, operating expenses, and profitability. Strengthen Cash, Runway & Capital Planning You'll maintain a clear view of cash, burn, and runway across multiple scenarios. You'll model the financial impact of hiring, market expansion, capital investments, and changes in operating performance, and help leadership understand the tradeoffs. Improve Budgeting & Resource Allocation Across the Organization You'll partner with functional leaders and market managers to build budgets and headcount plans grounded in company priorities and realistic operating assumptions. You'll track performance against those plans and help teams understand where spending or investment is deviating from expectations. Turn Financial & Operating Data into Strategic Decisions You'll analyze questions spanning market performance, demand generation, labor efficiency, hiring, pricing, and new growth opportunities. You'll combine financial analysis with operating context to identify the underlying drivers of performance and the decisions they imply. You'll turn ambiguous business questions into clear analyses, scenarios, and actionable recommendations. Embed Financial Planning Functionality into Craftwork's Software You'll partner with Product and Engineering to define financial workflows and reporting that should live directly within Craftwork's software. You'll help translate P&L, budgeting, forecasting, and market-performance requirements into clear product functionality. You'll ensure the financial tools we build provide operators with timely, accurate, and actionable visibility into the performance they own.

COMPETENCIES

Zero-to-One Builder You're comfortable taking ambiguous financial or business problems and turning them into clear analyses, models, and repeatable processes. You can build the system yourself rather than waiting for the perfect tools or instruction. Financial Planning & Modeling You have a strong foundation in financial modeling, budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and financial statement analysis. You understand how the P&L, balance sheet, cash flow, and operating metrics connect. Strategic & Analytical Judgment You can break complex business questions into their underlying drivers, identify what matters most, and develop clear recommendations. You're comfortable working with imperfect information and distinguishing between what is known, what is assumed, and what requires further investigation. Business & Operational Acumen You're curious about how the business actually works and understand that financial performance is the result of underlying operating decisions and behaviors. You seek context from others rather than analyzing performance exclusively from a spreadsheet, and can connect changes in demand, labor, pricing, productivity, and execution to their financial impact. Financial Discipline & Attention to Detail You take pride in producing accurate, dependable work and quickly notice when numbers, assumptions, or trends don't make sense. You maintain clear source data, assumptions, and documentation so models and reporting remain trustworthy over time. Product & Systems Thinking You understand how financial information can be translated into tools and workflows. You can work with Product and Engineering to turn financial requirements into clear, useful product functionality. You think beyond spreadsheets and look for opportunities to create scalable systems that improve visibility and decision-making. Cross-Functional Collaboration You communicate financial concepts clearly to people with different levels of expertise and help teams understand the implications for their work. You build trust by asking thoughtful questions, seeking operating context, and partnering with teams rather than simply reporting on their performance. You're low ego, highly accountable, and genuinely motivated by helping others succeed.
