The Role:
The Accounting Analyst 2 reports directly to the Accounting Manager and works closely with departments that originate financial transactions and data. This role maintains accurate financial records, ensures transactions are recorded in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), supports financial reporting and reconciliations, and helps evaluate accounting policies and procedures to improve efficiency and strengthen internal controls.
Key Responsibilities:
Review financial reports, oversee month-end and year-end reporting procedures, and ensure reconciliations comply with GAAP and applicable regulatory standards. Prepare and post general ledger journal entries, including accruals, amortization, depreciation, plant-related entries, and other adjusting entries as needed. Perform balance sheet account reconciliations, identify proposed adjustments and processing errors, and partner with other departments to resolve reconciling items. Partner with the Accounting Manager and Controller to provide records and support requested by auditors. Respond to accounting-related questions from Company staff in a timely and professional manner. Support preparation of the annual budget by reviewing and analyzing general ledger and budget information and coordinating explanations for budget variances. Assist with FERC regulatory financial statements and quarterly volumetric submissions. Develop financial reports, spreadsheets, and charts that support business needs and decision-making. Assist with processing and recording accounts payable transactions as needed. Support month-end close activities, including variance reviews, period costs, cost center reviews, balance sheet reviews, and internal control procedures. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in accounting. 3-5 years of progressively responsible accounting experience. Strong financial analysis skills. Experience with large ERP systems (SAP) is desirable. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to interact effectively with all levels of management. Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite, advanced Excel skills, and general ledger systems. CPA designation preferred. Utility or midstream accounting experience preferred.
