Assistant General Manager / Operations and Finance Coordinator Southeast Mountain Guides Red River Gorge, KY Position Southeast Mountain Guides is seeking a highly organized, proactive, and team-oriented leader to help oversee daily operations, bookkeeping and financial organization, staff support and scheduling, and business systems within our growing outdoor adventure company. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys: outdoor recreation operations, operational leadership, and behind-the-scenes organization. The ideal candidate is adaptable, trustworthy, detail-oriented, and excited to help a small business grow intentionally. Employment Information Location:
Campton, KY. Because of the nature of this role, this is not considered a remote position, though some tasks (weekly/seasonally) may be completed remotely when appropriate.
Seasonal rhythm:
On-season:
late February through early December ~40 hours/week 4-5 days/week Weekend availability is expected Typical days off will be mid-week
Off-season:
early December through late February Operations (via ferrata and guiding) are largely closed and most of the crew is not working ~10-15 hours/week Most winter work can be done remotely Primary winter responsibilities include bookkeeping, planning, updates, and prep for next season Position Responsibilities This is a trusted leadership role that combines bookkeeping, operations, staff support, and organizational development within a growing outdoor recreation company. We are seeking a people-oriented, mission-driven leader who is excited to help support and grow Southeast Mountain Guides. Depending on experience and qualifications, this position may begin as an Operations and Finance Coordinator with opportunities to grow into Assistant General Manager and other leadership roles over time. Not all responsibilities detailed here may be assigned immediately, but will be added as proficiency and trust are demonstrated. Core Operational Responsibilities Represent Southeast's company values with crew and clients. Assist in overseeing daily operations. Help maintain smooth trip execution and guest experience. Serve in operational roles as needed, including: Office Assistant (OA) Via Ferrata Instructor (VFI) Single Pitch Instructor (SPI) Maintain an in-depth working knowledge of the POS (point of sale) system and booking software. Inspect and maintain equipment. Forecast and purchase all company supplies: climbing gear, merch, drinks/snacks, cleaning supplies, office materials, maintenance/repair items, etc. Ensure the facility maintains a clean, professional, welcoming appearance. Financial & Administrative Responsibilities Maintain accurate bookkeeping records. Record and categorize income and expenses. Reconcile bank accounts. Assist with budgeting and financial planning. Prepare financial reports including net revenue reporting. Coordinate payroll and gratuity tracking. Prepare and submit recurring tax filings. Pay bills and monitor recurring expenses. Manage incoming mail. Handle cash management, bank deposits, and POS change orders. Scheduling & Team Support Be present and engaging during interviews and hiring. Assist with onboarding, training, and ongoing development of team members. Help maintain training materials and manuals. Assist with team communication and accountability. Assist in overseeing crew scheduling. Process time-off requests. Internal Communication & Leadership Support Communicate regularly and clearly with Southeast leadership and team. Attend and actively participate in regularly scheduled leadership, operational, and team meetings, primarily in person. Contribute ideas for operational and service improvements. Evaluate existing systems and processes and recommend improvements to increase efficiency, organization, communication, and overall operational effectiveness. Community & Marketing Support Assist with community events and outreach Support organizational partnerships and donations Help coordinate programs, clinics, and special events Support Southeast's public presence by contributing thoughtful ideas, stories, and content for social media, website updates, brochures, flyers, signage, and other marketing materials. Qualities and Qualifications This position is ideal for someone that is a highly capable developing leader, an outdoor industry professional, a mission-aligned operations person, or someone wanting meaningful responsibility. Candidates who meet or exceed these items will have a better chance of sustainability fulfilling this role. However, please don't hesitate to apply if all criteria are not met. Passionate about rock climbing, the Red River Gorge, and the outdoors. Enjoys both people-facing work and behind-the-scenes organizational work. Fully believes in and models the mission and culture of Southeast. Excellent communicator who doesn't avoid tough conversations. High social awareness, able to communicate and empathize with many types of people. Dedicated worker and true team player. Exercises sound judgment and is comfortable making both immediate and long-term decisions. Patient, calm, steady, positive presence. Confident and approachable. Deeply cares about people — our crew and our clients. Comfortable working indoors most days, but also willing to work outside in all weather when needed. Desire employment for multiple seasons and grow with the company. Moderate to extensive climbing experience. Experience teaching or coaching people. Office assistant and/or customer service experience. Basic accounting / bookkeeping experience. Familiarity with the Red River Gorge. Meetings & Rhythm of Work Schedule You will meet regularly weekly and monthly with the owner. These meetings exist so that operations and vision stay aligned, and so nothing important gets lost. Co-lead a bi-weekly mandatory in-person all team meeting.
