POSITION OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Associate Vice President (AVP) for Budget, Planning, and Reporting, t he Budget and Financial Analyst supports effective financial planning and oversight by managing budgets, monitoring expenditures, and providing insights to guide decision-making. This role ensures compliance with institutional policies, evaluates financial performance, and identifies trends, risks, and opportunities through reporting and data analysis. The analyst collaborates with departments and finance teams to maintain accurate financial information, support purchasing and funding decisions, and deliver clear, actionable reports and presentations. DUTIES Review departmental budget proposals for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with higher education guidelines, organizational objectives and university's mission. Track budget-to-actual performance, analyze variances and evaluate funding requests. Track spending throughout the fiscal year to ensure departments stay within their authorized limits. Manage capital expenditures and major projects identifying variances and optimizing cash management. Review and approve purchase requests. Create monthly reports explaining the difference between planned spending and actual results. Track Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to identify trends, opportunities, and risks. Prepare presentations, dashboards, and reports for stakeholders. In partnership with the business office/accounting, review, approve and update information to the financial system. Generate custom, on-demand dashboards, management reports and analytical reports to support decision-making.

Assist with special financial projects. Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum education, experience, licenses, certifications, and competencies (knowledge, skills, and behaviors) which are necessary for performing the listed duties. List first those which can be objectively measured. Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field. Minimum of two (2) years of experience in budgeting, financial analysis, or accounting Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret financial data and identify trends and variances. Proficiency in financial systems and advanced skills in Microsoft Excel (e.g., pivot tables, formulas, data analysis). Experience with reporting tools, dashboards, and data visualization. Knowledge of budgeting principles, financial forecasting, and internal controls. Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders. Strong attention to detail, organization, and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment. Further preferred qualifications which are also desirable for performing the listed duties. Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field, or professional certification (e.g., CPA, CMA). Experience in higher education or a similarly complex, multi-departmental environment. Hands-on experience with Ellucian Colleague and reporting tools such as Informer. Advanced skills in financial modeling, forecasting, and data visualization (e.g., Power BI, Tableau). Experience with audits, compliance, or process improvement initiatives.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Starting annual salary: $70,000. The final offer for the successful candidate will be commensurate with experience and may exceed the starting annual salary.
