Job Description

The City of Grand Prairie is seeking an Intern to gain hands-on experience in budgeting and finance. Responsibilities include preparing meeting minutes, retrieving and entering financial data in Financial Software, and creating Excel reports. You'll assist with updating reporting packages and work on special projects to develop key analytical skills. This is a great opportunity to build real-world experience in a dynamic government setting—apply today! The Budget Intern will work closely with the Budget staff to help achieve organizational goals. The intern will spend time on activities including, but not limited to: Preparing minutes from budget review meetings. Retrieving financial reports using Financial Software. Entering financial data into Financial Software. Preparing monthly financial information and reports. Creating various end-user Excel reports from data extracts. Update reporting package for Budget staff. Special projects as assigned. Assist with other management services departments, including purchasing, audit, and debt management, as needed to gain additional knowledge.
Education:
Must have a High School Diploma or GED and currently enrolled in an accredited university pursuing a Bachelor's degree with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. Applicants for this position should be a Junior or Senior Undergraduate or Graduate student in the areas of Public Administration, Public Policy, Business Administration, Finance, or related field. Skills Finance, accounting, and/or statistical classes Strong Excel skills (Required) Good communication skills, both verbal and written Ability to prepare accurate and comprehensive meeting minutes Detail oriented, with the ability to problem solve Ability to work independently Capacity to learn proprietary systems quickly Strong organizational, analytical, and time management skills
