The Accounting Manager oversees day-to-day accounting operations and ensures accurate, timely, and understandable financial information to support company decisions. This role manages the monthly close process; maintains the general ledger; oversees accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll coordination, and job costing administration; and ensures established internal controls and accounting procedures are followed. The Accounting Manager partners with division managers and the Fractional CFO (External) to support reporting, compliance, and continuous process improvement.Duties & Responsibilities:
- Represents the Company's best interest in interactions and communication with customers, employees, and vendors
- Manage the monthly close process (in direct partnership with the Fractional CFO), including preparation of standard month-end entries and supporting schedules
- Maintain the general ledger and chart of accounts; ensure proper account coding and documentation
- Prepare, review, and post journal entries and maintain supporting documentation
- Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, including supervising A/R and A/P Specialists and the Purchasing Specialist, to support timely vendor payments and collections
- Coordinate payroll processing and related filings in partnership with HR/third-party providers as applicable
- Support job costing setup and maintenance; work with operations to improve job cost accuracy and timely cost recognition
- Prepare and distribute routine financial and job/department variance reports; explain key variances to division managers
- Maintain and execute internal controls and accounting procedures; recommend improvements for efficiency and accuracy
- Coordinate with the Fractional CFO (External) for month-end review, year-end close, and tax support
- Support compliance activities such as sales/use tax reporting and required registrations, as applicable
- Occasional local travel (e.g., bank and/or post office runs) as needed; mileage reimbursed in accordance with company policy
- Maintain accounting systems and support process/system improvements, including cross-department training as needed
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position works closely with executive leadership (CDO, CEO, and COO), the Director of HR, division managers, purchasing, and office personnel to support corporate objectives through accurate financial processes and reporting. The Accounting Manager directly manages a small accounting operations team, including Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable Specialists and the Purchasing Specialist, and is responsible for coaching, workflow prioritization, cross-training, and ensuring work is completed accurately and on time. The Accounting Manager must be able to communicate effectively with internal teams and external partners (customers, H.O.A. boards, management company supervisors, vendors, and the Fractional CFO (External)).Key Performance Indicators:
- Timely completion of month-end close with accurate reconciliations and supporting schedules
- Accurate and timely financial reporting and job/department variance reporting
- Effective communication of key variances and accounting impacts to division managers and leadership
- High accuracy in A/P and A/R processing, including vendor statement reconciliations and collection follow-up
- Consistent maintenance of job costing data accuracy and timely issue resolution with operations
- Successful coordination with the Fractional CFO (External) for month-end review, year-end close, and audit/tax support
- Effective execution of internal controls and continuous process improvements (systems, workflows, documentation)
- Accurate and timely completion of applicable sales/use tax reporting and other compliance filings
- Professional, effective interactions with customers, employees, and vendors
Required Qualifications:
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal) with the ability to explain financial information to non-finance partners
- Bachelor's degree in accounting (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
- 3+ years of progressive accounting experience, including responsibility for month-end close and account reconciliations
- Working knowledge of A/P, A/R, payroll coordination, and general ledger accounting
- Experience supporting job costing and/or project-based accounting environments
- Proficiency with Excel and accounting systems; ability to learn job cost and operational software
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 (O365) suite (Excel, Outlook, Word, Teams, SharePoint)
- Strong attention to detail, time management, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to coordinate effectively with the Fractional CFO (External) and banking partners as needed
- Conflict resolution and collaboration skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Accounting experience within construction, landscaping, field services, or other job cost/project-based environments
- Prior experience supervising or mentoring accounting/administrative staff
- Exposure to sales/use tax compliance in Colorado and/or multiple jurisdictions
- Preferred experience with QuickBooks Online (QBO)
- Preferred experience with Aspire Landscape Management Software
- Experience with accounting/job cost systems implementations or process improvements
- Bilingual communication
- Knowledge of the landscape industry

Work Environment:
This position is primarily performed on-site in an office setting and mostly at a desk using a computer and standard office equipment. The role involves frequent sitting and standing/walking throughout the day. Occasional trips outside to the yard/shop may be necessary and may involve brief exposure to outside weather conditions. Occasional local travel may be required (e.g., bank and/or post office runs); mileage is reimbursed in accordance with company policy. Light lifting and moving of materials typical of an office environment may be required. We are a 100% drug free company.Pay:
$74,954.16 - $90,267.38 per yearBenefits:
