Job Description
Description We are looking for an experienced Accounting Manager to oversee the financial operations of a school district in west Denver. This role is integral to ensuring compliance with regulations, maintaining accurate financial records, and providing strategic insights through detailed financial reporting. The ideal candidate will lead a team of accounting staff, manage audits, and implement robust financial controls.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise the accounting team to ensure accurate processing of payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and other financial transactions.
- Prepare comprehensive financial statements and reports on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis for both internal and external stakeholders.
- Coordinate and manage external audits, ensuring timely submission of schedules and accuracy in documentation.
- Develop, implement, and maintain financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to uphold compliance with regulations.
- Administer and monitor the annual budget process, including forecasting, expenditure tracking, and variance analysis.
- Perform detailed financial analysis to identify trends, risks, and opportunities, presenting actionable recommendations to district leadership.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations as well as relevant accounting standards.
- Manage accounting for grants and special funds, ensuring proper reporting and adherence to funding requirements.
- Train and mentor accounting staff, fostering growth and ethical practices.
- Collaborate with departments such as Human Resources and Purchasing to streamline financial processes and improve efficiency. Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required; certifications such as CPA or CMA are highly preferred.
- At least 5 years of experience in accounting or finance, with a minimum of 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role, ideally in the public or education sector.
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with school district financial systems is a strong advantage.
- Solid understanding of financial reporting standards and government accounting principles.
- Exceptional organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
- Experience with month-end close, general ledger management, financial audits, account reconciliation, and journal entries.
- Commitment to maintaining high ethical standards and encouraging attention to detail and continuous development within the team.
