Job Description

Cost Control ManagerPosition Overview The Cost Control Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining robust cost control and reporting systems that support project and company financial objectives. This role oversees budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, job costing, and financial reporting to ensure projects are delivered within budget and in compliance with GAAP. The manager partners with project teams, procurement, and finance to drive cost discipline, improve forecasting accuracy, and deliver actionable insights to senior leadership.

Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, implement, and maintain cost control frameworks, processes, and policies to support project and corporate financial objectives.

Prepare and manage project budgets, estimates, and forecasts; conduct regular budget reviews with project teams.

Perform detailed cost analysis and variance reporting (monthly and ad hoc) to identify trends, risks, and mitigation actions.

Develop and maintain job-costing methodologies and oversee accurate allocation of labor, materials, equipment, and overhead.

Ensure financial reporting and accounting practices comply with GAAP and company policies.

Manage and maintain cost control databases, ERP modules, and reporting tools; implement improvements to automate and streamline reporting.

Collaborate with project managers, procurement, and operations to monitor purchase orders, change orders, and commitments affecting cost-to-complete.

Deliver timely cash flow analysis and cost-to-complete forecasts to support liquidity planning and executive decision-making.

Lead and mentor the cost control team, providing training on cost accounting principles, systems, and best practices.

Support internal and external audits by preparing reconciliations, schedules, and supporting documentation.

Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance cost accuracy, reporting cadence, and process efficiency.

Communicate complex financial information and recommendations to non-financial stakeholders and senior leadership.

QualificationsBachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, Construction Management, or closely related field; CPA or CMA preferred.

Minimum 7+ years of progressive experience in cost control, cost accounting, or project accounting, preferably within construction, engineering, or heavy industrial sectors.

Strong knowledge of GAAP and experience applying accounting principles to project-based work.

Proven experience with databases and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, JDE) and advanced proficiency in Excel and financial reporting tools.

Demonstrated expertise in cost accounting, budgeting, forecasting, job costing, and variance analysis.

Excellent analytical skills with attention to detail and the ability to translate data into actionable insight.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence project teams and senior stakeholders.

Experience leading and developing high-performing teams and improving financial processes and controls.

Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.
