Work Schedule:
Full-time, business hours Position Overview The Accounting Manager will oversee the full accounting function across two related entities, managing day-to-day operations while ensuring accurate financial reporting and a timely close process. This role is responsible for the general ledger, financial statements, and oversight of AP, AR, and payroll, while also supporting project-based accounting activities. The ideal candidate brings a strong technical accounting foundation, leadership experience, and the ability to create structure within a collaborative, stable environment. Key Responsibilities Oversee the general ledger and lead the month-end close process for two entities Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements Manage and review day-to-day accounting operations across accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll Supervise and mentor a small accounting team, providing guidance and establishing effective processes and controls Handle monthly union reporting requirements Process and/or oversee payroll tax filings, including quarterly and annual filings (e.g., 940s, 941s) Support percentage-of-completion (POC) billing and revenue recognition Ensure compliance with accounting standards, internal policies, and regulatory requirements Partner with leadership to improve processes, reporting, and overall accounting function efficiency Team Structure Direct oversight of 3 team members: Staff Accountant AP/AR Specialist Payroll Specialist Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership or supervisory responsibilities Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting, financial reporting, and month-end close Experience overseeing AP, AR, and payroll functions Familiarity with payroll tax filings (e.g., 940, 941) Experience with percentage-of-completion (POC) accounting or project-based accounting strongly preferred Strong attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving skills Ability to operate both strategically and hands-on in a small team environment Preferred Qualifications Experience in construction, project-based, or contract accounting environments Exposure to union reporting requirements CPA or CPA-track is a plus Work Environment This role operates within a stable, team-oriented environment with strong employee tenure and low turnover.
