Job Description

Position Summary Civil Construction is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to oversee the company's day-to-day accounting operations, financial reporting, payroll compliance, and regulatory reporting requirements. The Accounting Manager will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting monthly and annual close processes, coordinating compliance and reporting activities, and ensuring the integrity of the company's accounting systems and processes. This role will work closely with executive leadership, who retain responsibility for financial strategy, banking relationships, cash management, and major financial decisions. The ideal candidate will have a strong accounting background, experience in the construction industry, and familiarity with job costing, payroll compliance, and construction accounting software including Vista & ADP Work Force Now. Key Responsibilities Accounting & Financial Reporting Manage day-to-day accounting operations and maintain the general ledger. Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules. Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes. Prepare monthly financial statements and management reports for leadership review. Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules. Support annual audits and preparation of audit workpapers. Construction Accounting Prepare and maintain Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules. Support project billing, revenue recognition, and job cost reporting. Monitor project financial data and assist management with project performance reporting. Administer accounting functions within Viewpoint Vista. Payroll, Tax & Regulatory Compliance Coordinate payroll accounting activities and payroll-related reconciliations. Prepare and file payroll tax reports and regulatory filings, including Forms 941, W-2s, 1099s, ACA reporting, and state reporting requirements. Coordinate union reporting, benefit remittances, and compliance requirements. Assist with business tax preparation and provide supporting documentation to external accountants. Maintain compliance with applicable federal, state, and local reporting requirements. Internal Controls & Process Improvement Maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls. Assist in identifying opportunities to improve accounting processes and reporting efficiency. Ensure accurate documentation and record retention practices. Collaboration & Support Work closely with executive leadership to provide timely and accurate financial information. Collaborate with operations, project management, payroll, and administrative teams. Serve as a key resource for accounting, reporting, and compliance matters across the organization. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred. 5+ years of accounting experience, preferably within the construction industry. Experience with job costing, project accounting, and Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting. Experience with Viewpoint Vista strongly preferred. Knowledge of payroll tax reporting, regulatory filings, and compliance requirements. Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting software. Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with leadership and operational teams.
