at Maine Energy Experts in Buxton, Maine, United States Job Description This is a remote, part-time or full time position (30-40 hours/week) owning the Accounting and HR sector of Maine Energy Experts. You will administer payroll, benefits, 401(k), insurance, taxes, and HR for our W-2 team. What you'll do Run payroll for our W-2 employees, ensuring accurate, compliant, on-time pay every cycle. Administer employee benefits, including health insurance and our 401(k) plan — enrollments and contributions. Serve as the go-to HR resource for W-2 employees: onboarding, compensation and payroll questions, employee records, and day-to-day people support. Maintain certificates of insurance (COIs) — track incoming vendor/subcontractor certs, issue COIs on request, and stay ahead of renewals. Administer business insurance and workers' compensation — manage coverage and renewals, support annual audits, and coordinate claims with our carrier (MEMIC). Oversee full-cycle bookkeeping rep. Audit recorded transactions and complete the monthly close.
Manage tax readiness:
prepare and review filings, stay current on federal and state tax requirements, and file quarterly (payroll and sales/use tax as applicable). Support tax reviews and audits by organizing documentation, responding to requests, and coordinating with our external CPA/auditors. Keep our records clean, organized, and audit-ready year-round.
