Accounting Manager / Controller | Long Island | Family Owned Business Our client is a privately held, family-owned food importer and distributor with operations across multiple U.S. markets. The company works directly with international suppliers and distributes fresh, perishable products to supermarket processors, food service operators, wholesalers, and specialty distributors. Position Summary The Accounting Manager / Controller will serve as the company's primary finance and accounting leader, working directly with ownership. This is a broad, hands-on position responsible for accounting and financial reporting, treasury, banking, credit and collections, HR administration, contracts, and insurance. Key Responsibilities Accounting & Financial Reporting Prepare monthly financial statements and supporting schedules Manage the general ledger and ensure accuracy of financial reporting Coordinate year-end reporting and tax schedules with the company's outside CPA Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial performance analysis Supervise accounts payable and accounts receivable functions Treasury, Banking & Credit Monitor daily cash and banking activity Manage wire transfers and payments to domestic and international suppliers Establish and manage banking relationships and lines of credit Manage customer credit limits, collections, and vendor payment terms Monitor customs duties and other import-related payments HR & Administration Coordinate payroll, benefits, hiring, onboarding, personnel files, and other HR matters alongside the company's PEO Support offer letters, employment agreements, company policies, employee relations, and terminations Contracts & Insurance Review and coordinate supplier agreements, NDAs, employment agreements, leases, and other business contracts Manage and negotiate commercial insurance coverage, including general liability, product liability, cargo, and credit insurance Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field Progressive accounting experience within a small or mid-sized organization Prior Controller, Accounting Manager, or similar hands-on financial leadership experience Experience within food distribution, wholesale, perishables, commodities, import/export, or a related industry strongly preferred Strong understanding of financial reporting, general ledger accounting, cash management, AP/AR, and budgeting/forecasting Experience working with banking relationships, wire transfers, credit facilities, and collections Exposure to payroll and HR administration; experience working with a PEO is a plus
