Job Description

The Director of RCM Operations is responsible for the daily management and coordination of all operational and client service activities for assigned accounts. This role oversees the full revenue cycle continuum—including Front, Middle, and Back-office operations and HIM—to ensure external client satisfaction, consistent cash flow, and operational excellence. The Director proactively monitors performance metrics, resolves escalated client issues, and implements process improvements to maximize productivity and ensure all revenue production goals are met.

The ideal candidate brings deep, end-to-end Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) expertise, with a strong background in medical coding and demonstrated experience supporting complex hospital and health system environments. Serving as a subject matter expert in coding, this individual will provide strategic guidance to optimize compliance, reimbursement accuracy, and operational performance. A strong focus on growth-oriented KPIs is essential, with accountability for delivering financial improvements and expanding client value. Professional coding certification (e.g., CPC, CCS, RHIA, or RHIT) is strongly preferred. Essential Job Functions Oversee RCM and HIM functions to ensure all activities align with organizational policies, procedures, and client contract requirements. Manage workloads and identify priorities to ensure all daily, weekly, and monthly revenue and cash production goals are achieved. Analyze and monitor operational KPI metrics by client; proactively identify trends and implement corrective actions for performance variances. Continually assess staff workflows and systems to streamline processes, improve performance, and create a cost-effective use of resources. Implement operational improvements and collaborate with senior leadership to adjust processes for enhanced efficiency. Establish and adjust staffing levels based on account volume and revenue to maintain optimal production levels. Lead monthly and quarterly meetings with clients; serve as a Revenue Cycle subject matter expert (SME) to advise clients on industry best practices. Serve as the primary point of contact for escalated operational issues, ensuring timely and effective resolution. Oversee the compilation and review of comprehensive Revenue Cycle performance reports for internal and external stakeholders. Direct management activity related to hiring, training, coaching, and performance appraisals for the RCM and HIM management teams. Effectively manage and coordinate with global resources (offshore teams) to ensure seamless delivery. Ensure all operations comply with Federal, State, and Local laws, including HIPAA and specific client audit requirements. This role has direct supervisory responsibility for a management team which may include: Sr. Managers, Managers, Supervisors, and functional leads across Billing, Coding, and Insurance Follow-up. Work Environment This job operates in a remote home office environment . This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers and phones . Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are generally Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. This position occasionally requires long hours and weekend work. Required Education and Experience Bachelor's degree in business, HIM or a related field (or equivalent experience). Must have strong fundamental Profee & Facility coding background (CPC + CCS or CCS-P) Minimum 7-10 years of experience in Revenue Cycle and HIM leadership roles. At least 5 years of experience in a management capacity, including oversight of multiple functional areas (Patient Access, Coding, CDI, and/or Billing). Hands-on experience with scheduling, coding, billing, and Practice Management Systems (PMS). Preferred Education and Experience Master's degree. CPC + CCS or
CCS-P RHIA
+ coding credential (CCS/CPC) Experience in second-line leadership. Experience in staffing preferred.
