Job Description:
About Leon Capital Group Leon Capital Group (LCG) is a diversified holding company founded in 2006 by Fernando De Leon. LCG combines the best attributes of family office flexibility and institutional quality investing with the singular objective of durable compound interest. The firm conceives, builds, owns, and operates companies across real estate, private credit, financial services, healthcare, and technology, investing its own capital with the discipline of an institution and the conviction of a founder. Position Overvi ew LCG is building a private capital-backed insurance ecosystem anchored by Bastion Re, LCG's reinsurance vehicle.
The model is proven:
originate insurance liabilities, generate float, and deploy that capital as a permanent, low-cost funding source across a diversified investment portfolio spanning real estate, private credit, financial services, healthcare, and technology. The insurance platform is not a standalone business within LCG; it interacts with all of LCG's investment strategies. Bastion Re is operational, and the foundational partnerships are in place. The mandate now is to build the ecosystem around it. The Managing Partner, Insur ance owns that mandate. The role spans both sides of the balance sheet: building and scaling life and annuity origination, managing the resulting float through Bastion Re, deploying that capital across LCG's investment platform, and expanding the ecosystem through majority and minority investments in carriers and IMOs, standing up LCG's own annuity carrier, distribution partnerships, and new product origination across life, annuity, specialty, property and casualty, and reinsurance. The right candidate has structured this model before, understands it at the level of the architect, and is prepared to build LCG's version at scale.
Key Responsibilities Ecosystem Strategy and Leadership:
Own the full strategic and operating mandate for LCG's insurance ecosystem as the Managing Partner, Insurance, accountable for its performance and growth. Define and execute the long-term strategy for LCG's insurance ecosystem across life, annuity, specialty, property and casualty, reinsurance, and distribution in alignment with LCG's broader capital allocation objectives. Build and scale origination capabilities across float-producing insurance businesses through Bastion Re and LCG's growing portfolio of insurance entities. Serve as the senior voice of the insurance ecosystem in firm-wide capital allocation reviews and strategic planning.
Platform Expansion:
Lead the development of LCG's own annuity carrier and oversee its build-out as a core origination vehicle within the ecosystem. Acquire and develop majority and minority stakes in life and annuity carriers, P&C carriers, IMOs, and other distribution engines to expand origination reach and premium volume. Leverage LCG's existing RIA relationships to support life and annuities distribution across the platform. Identify and execute strategic partnerships that accelerate the growth of LCG's insurance ecosystem. Evaluate and execute acquisitions of life, specialty, property and casualty, and reinsurance businesses consistent with LCG's float deployment model. Complement LCG's asset management capabilities by developing the origination infrastructure that generates permanent, low-cost investable capital.
Capital Structure and Investment Strategy:
Lead the design and ongoing management of Bastion Re's capital structure and reinsurance strategy. Oversee the deployment of Bastion Re's float into LCG's investment platform, ensuring alignment between liability origination, asset-liability management, and investment objectives. Develop and maintain the investment policy statement and investment policy framework in coordination with LCG's senior investment leadership. Oversee asset allocation, liquidity management, and private credit deployment in coordination with LCG's broader capital strategy. Evaluate private market investment opportunities across fixed income, structured credit, asset-backed finance, and commercial real estate debt as components of the insurance portfolio.
Regulatory Compliance and Governance:
Serve as the principal regulator-facing voice for LCG's insurance ecosystem, owning relationships with applicable state insurance departments and industry regulators across Bastion Re and all LCG insurance entities. Oversee NAIC compliance, RBC capital planning, and regulatory capital management across LCG's insurance entities. Ensure capital adequacy across the insurance ecosystem in coordination with LCG's senior leadership.
Business Development and Distribution:
Cultivate institutional relationships with insurers, reinsurance counterparties, and capital markets participants to expand the reach of LCG's insurance ecosystem. Develop distribution relationships across the IMO, RIA, and independent agent channels to drive premium volume into the platform across all float-producing insurance businesses.
Qualifications Required:
Senior leadership experience in insurance, reinsurance, or private capital with a demonstrated track record of building, scaling, or operating an insurance platform across one or more lines of business including life and annuities, property and casualty, specialty, or reinsurance, at the executive level. Experience as a named officer or principal of a NAIC-regulated entity, with direct accountability for NAIC filings, RBC compliance, and state regulatory relationships. Fluency in the insurance float model: originating insurance liabilities across multiple product lines, structuring the liability profile, and deploying the resulting capital as a productive investment asset across a diversified portfolio. Asset-liability management experience, including investment policy statement construction and ALM framework oversight. Track record evaluating and executing transactions, including carrier acquisitions, strategic partnerships, capital markets activity, or structured reinsurance arrangements. Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, business, law, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
Preferred:
Experience building or operating an insurance or reinsurance platform within a private capital, permanent capital, or alternative asset management structure. Background originating from private equity, structured credit, or investment banking with direct exposure to insurance platform development or insurance-linked investment strategies. Direct experience with multi-year guaranteed annuities (MYGA) and fixed indexed annuities (FIA) as liability origination vehicles. Advanced degree or professional designation such as a Juris Doctor (J.D.), Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.), or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA). Ideal Background The right candidate has operated at the intersection of private capital and insurance. They came from a private equity, structured credit, or investment banking background and moved into insurance platform leadership, or they built their career across insurance lines including life and annuities, property and casualty, specialty, or reinsurance at the executive level with equal command of the investment side of the balance sheet. They have built or scaled an insurance platform inside a permanent or private capital structure across one or more lines of business. They understand that the value in this model is not in the insurance products. It is in using insurance liabilities to generate permanent, low-cost investment capital and deploying that capital with discipline across a diversified portfolio. They have been the architect who structured and operated that flywheel. LCG provides that architecture at an early enough stage that the decisions are still being made. Bastion Re is operational. The investment platform is established. What does not yet exist is the ecosystem built on top of that foundation. That is the work. Why Leon Capital Group Permanent Capital. LCG invests from its own balance sheet with no fund-cycle pressure and no forced exits. Capital is permanent, decisions are made with conviction, and the people who lead LCG's businesses are given real ownership of their mandates and real authority to execute them. Build Something. LCG is building a private capital-backed insurance ecosystem from a strong foundation. Bastion Re is operational. The ecosystem architecture is yours to shape. Full Ownership. Full ownership of LCG's insurance ecosystem with real decision-making authority from day one. This is a role for someone who has built before and is ready to do it again at a firm where the capital and the conviction are already in place. Broad Platform. Ownership of LCG's full insurance ecosystem with knowledge and reach across twelve industries, and the mandate to grow it and identify new opportunities within LCG's expanding business.
