Insight Global is seeking a Project Accounting Manager for a top construction industry client. This individual will lead the project accounting function and supervise a team of Project Accountants while overseeing job costing, project financial reporting, forecasting, WIP reporting, construction billing, revenue recognition support, and project closeout activities. The ideal candidate is a hands-on accounting leader with a strong understanding of both accounting and construction operations who can partner closely with Project Managers and Operations leadership to drive financial performance, improve reporting accuracy, and ensure project profitability. This role offers significant visibility within the organization and the opportunity to help strengthen financial processes, controls, and operational decision-making.
Day-to-Day:
  • Lead, mentor, and develop Project Accountants
  • Establish team goals, priorities, and performance expectations
  • Oversee project setup, contract entry, budgets, cost codes, and financial structures in the ERP system
  • Ensure project costs are accurately recorded across labor, equipment, materials, and subcontractors
  • Review job cost reports and investigate financial variances
  • Monitor committed costs and subcontract obligations
  • Manage monthly forecasting and review forecasts for accuracy and completeness
  • Analyze project profitability and identify financial risks
  • Prepare and review monthly WIP schedules
  • Support revenue recognition calculations
  • Oversee AIA, progress, unit price, and time & material billing processes
  • Ensure timely and accurate customer invoicing
  • Assist Project Managers with billing issues and customer inquiries
  • Monitor unbilled revenue and billing backlog
  • Support month-end and year-end close activities
  • Review project financial statements and profitability reporting
  • Identify cost overruns and margin erosion
  • Assist with management and executive financial reporting
  • Maintain internal controls and ensure compliance with company policies and contract requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 7+ years of accounting experience
  • 5+ years of construction/project accounting experience
  • Strong understanding of construction job costing, WIP reporting, forecasting, and revenue recognition
  • Experience with AIA billing, retainage management, subcontract accounting, and cost code structures
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Experience with construction ERP systems
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • Ability to analyze financial statements, WIP schedules, and job cost reports and effectively communicate financial performance to Operations and Project Management teams
  • Prior supervisory or management experience
  • Experience hiring, onboarding, training, and mentoring accounting staff
  • Experience supporting internal and external audits
  • ERP implementation or process improvement experience
  • Strong construction operations knowledge
