Job Description
The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing key accounting operations, including payroll processing, accounts payable, cash receipts, collections, invoicing, sales and use tax compliance, and month-end reporting. This position provides leadership and direction to the Cost Accountant and Accounts Payable functions while ensuring accurate financial records, strong internal controls, timely financial reporting, and compliance with applicable accounting standards and tax regulations. Position Responsibilities Leadership & Oversight Provide supervision, guidance, and support to the Cost Accountant. Oversee accounts payable processes to ensure timely and accurate payment of vendors. Evaluate and improve accounting procedures, controls, and workflow efficiencies. Assist with the development and implementation of department policies and procedures. Payroll Administration Process and review payroll for accuracy and completeness. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations. Coordinate payroll-related reporting and reconciliation activities. Accounts Receivable & Collections Manage customer collections activities and monitor aging reports. Follow up on past due accounts and resolve payment issues. Maintain customer account records and payment histories. Cash Receipts & Invoicing Oversee the application and reconciliation of cash receipts. Ensure customer invoices are processed accurately and timely. Monitor billing activities and resolve invoicing discrepancies. Financial Reporting & Month-End Close Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities. Prepare and analyze monthly financial reports and account reconciliations. Review financial data for accuracy and completeness. Support budgeting and forecasting activities. Assist the VP of Finance with financial analysis and special projects. Sales & Use Tax Compliance Prepare and file sales and use tax returns. Maintain exemption certificates and supporting tax documentation. Monitor tax law changes and ensure ongoing compliance. Internal Controls & Compliance Assist with the establishment and maintenance of internal controls. Support audits and provide requested financial documentation. Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies. Required Skills/Abilities Strong leadership and coaching skills. Comprehensive knowledge of accounting principles and practices. Thorough understanding of payroll administration and tax compliance. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting/ERP systems. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information. Education and Experience Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration or the equivalent in experience Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience. Manufacturing accounting experience preferred. Supervisory or leadership experience preferred. Experience with payroll processing, sales and use tax, accounts receivable, collections, and month-end reporting required.
