Exempt | Onsite with regular operational engagement Role Overview Freshway Produce is seeking a hands‑on Operational Controller to serve as the financial engine behind our daily operations. This is a high‑impact, embedded finance role designed for a professional who thrives at the intersection of accounting, operations, and margin management in a fast‑moving, perishable supply chain environment. Unlike a traditional Controller position, this role requires active engagement with warehouse operations, logistics, purchasing, and sales. The Operational Controller will own day‑to‑day cost control, margin visibility, and operational financial discipline—ensuring leadership has accurate, actionable insight to support real‑time decision‑making. This position is ideal for someone who understands that inventory moves, prices shift, shrink happens, and margins are won or lost daily—not monthly. Key Responsibilities Operational Financial Leadership

• Own daily and weekly monitoring and reporting of operational costs, packaging, freight, storage, handling, and shrink, ensuring visibility against budget and operational targets.

This role is responsible for consolidating inputs from Operations, Retail Program Operations, and Data Analytics, and for producing weekly budget versus actual reports to support operational control and executive decision‑making. Partner directly with Operations and Logistics to evaluate process changes and workflow efficiency through a financial lens. Support accurate land cost modeling and real‑time COGS visibility across products and programs.

• Supervise lot liquidations and ensure accurate financial treatment, including the review of all liquidation reports provided with Famous.

This role is responsible for validating that liquidation activity is properly reflected in accounting and aligned with the company's business model by product and by location, working cross‑functionally to break down and correct discrepancies as needed. Margin & Cost Control Track and analyze gross margin performance by product, customer, and program. Identify margin risks, cost overruns, and anomalies early—and escalate with solutions.

• Help institutionalize cost control and financial visibility mechanisms across distribution centers and vendor touchpoints, including the establishment of a regular cadence for weekly cash flow reporting and bi‑weekly operational dashboards.

Ensure that internal accounting records accurately reflect operational realities and are consistently reconciled with bank activity, providing management with reliable, decision‑ready financial insight. Produce‑Specific Financial Analytics Apply industry knowledge of perishables (shrink, shelf life, weight loss, seasonality, supply volatility) to refine inventory valuation and margin reporting. Partner with Purchasing to validate vendor programs, pricing structures, and invoice accuracy and approval. Ensure financial reporting reflects real produce behavior, not standard manufacturing assumptions. Financial Reporting & Controls Oversee daily, weekly, and monthly reconciliations related to inventory and operations. Prepare timely management reports that translate financial data into operational insight. Strengthen internal controls and SOP adherence across all operational departments. Cross‑Functional Partnership Act as the primary operational finance liaison to Operations, Purchasing, Logistics, Sales, and QA. Translate financial data into clear, actionable guidance for non‑finance leaders. Support leadership with fact‑based recommendations that balance cost control and growth.

Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, Business, or related field. Prior experience in fresh produce. 5+ years of progressive experience in finance, accounting, or operational analysis. Demonstrated experience supporting operations‑heavy, inventory‑driven environments. Strong understanding of COGS, landed costs, inventory valuation, and margin analysis.

Advanced Excel proficiency:

experience with ERP systems required. Bilingual Spanish/English. Strongly Preferred Qualifications Working knowledge of freight allocation, logistics cost modeling, and vendor program reconciliation.
