Job Description
The Department of Finance provides centralized structure and support for the City of Norfolk's financial operations, including: financial reporting; debt and cash management; payroll; procurement; risk management; financial system administration and support; accounts payable; collections; retirement and parking financial operations. Finance's Parking Financial Operations division manages all accounting, reporting, budgeting, and revenue oversight for the City's parking activities, ensuring strong financial controls, timely monthly reporting, accurate year-end projections, and audit readiness within the City's general ledger system. The Department of Finance is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to support the Parking Financial Operations division. The ideal candidate will be capable of working independently while contributing to critical reporting and operational tasks. Success in this role requires the ability to manage multiple responsibilities efficiently, maintain a high level of accuracy, and adapt to evolving technologies and systems. Candidates should demonstrate strong analytical skills, a solid understanding of accounting and financial principles, and the ability to interpret and resolve complex financial issues using critical thinking. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as the position involves frequent collaboration across teams and departments. This role also requires proficiency in working with various financial systems and software applications, including the ability to upload, manage, and transmit data accurately. The successful candidate will assist in coordinating team workflows, managing priorities, and ensuring deadlines are consistently met. The ability to balance competing tasks, maintain organized processes, and produce reliable, high-quality work is critical to this position. Essential Functions include but are not limited to the following. Support the management of staff workflows to effectively coordinate responsibilities and meet multiple, time-sensitive deadlines. Prepare, analyze, and update financial forecasts and year-end projections, utilizing data from multiple financial systems and sources to ensure accuracy and reliability. Apply analytical methods, system tools, and professional judgment to identify trends, validate assumptions, and support informed decision-making. Prepare, analyze, and update financial and budget projections, including year-end forecasts, by gathering data from multiple systems, validating assumptions, and applying analytical tools and methods to ensure accuracy, reliability, and alignment with departmental financial objectives. Assist with processing a variety of disbursements, including electronic payment files, wire transfers, card payments, and check printing across multiple systems and applications. Deliver exceptional customer service to citizens, vendors, and departmental personnel by responding to inquiries and resolving issues promptly and professionally. Download, review, analyze, and maintain financial data from multiple platforms, and prepare clear, timely reports for senior leadership, auditors, and external stakeholders. Utilize the MS Office Suite—particularly Excel—to perform data analysis required for tasks associated with diverse payment types from separate payment platforms. Analyze and manage large data sets, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and proper documentation. Serve as a liaison with customers, supporting communication, issue resolution, and process coordination. Work requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field. Knowledge is normally acquired through four years of college resulting in a bachelor's degree or equivalent.
Required:
Four years' experience in data analysis or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A minimum of two to five years' experience in accounting, finance or budget. Technical skills related to downloading, analysis and transmission of data from various platforms are preferred.Similar remote jobs
