At Northern Trust, the Senior Banking Advisor develops and manages complex wealth management client relationships across banking, credit, and treasury management. As a senior advisor, this role is responsible for new business development, structuring and negotiating complex financing solutions, and advising clients through a goals-driven wealth management approach. The role balances high-level operational execution with the development and execution of strategic business initiatives and serves as a subject matter expert to partners and internal teams. What You'll Do
  • Develop new client relationships by identifying prospects and executing targeted marketing strategies for specific clients.
  • Manage complex wealth management banking, credit, and treasury management client relationships and identify opportunities beyond banking, including investment and fiduciary solutions.
  • Structure and negotiate complex loan and/or lease agreements in accordance with guidelines established by senior bank and business unit management.
  • Analyze and negotiate loan terms, including special pricing conditions, interest rates, swaps, and related structures, in alignment with Credit Policy Committee guidelines; oversee and negotiate preparation of documentation required for financing agreements.
  • Advise and consult with clients as it relates to Goals-Driven Wealth Management.
  • Generate leads through well-established relationships with centers of influence (COIs) and cultivate a network of additional COIs.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert by providing comprehensive, in-depth consulting and leadership to partners and teams at a high technical level.
  • Execute activities that are large in scope, cross-functional, and technically complex.
  • Balance high-level operational execution with the development and execution of strategic direction for business function activities.
  • Engage directly with committees and senior management as required.
  • Develop, implement, and administer strategic programs within assigned functional areas.
  • Lead others in solving complex problems and navigating technically challenging situations. What Will Make You Successful in the Role
  • Advanced knowledge of the banking industry, competitive landscape, and financing, typically acquired through formal education and professional experience.
  • Working knowledge of investments, trust, and financial consulting concepts to identify cross-selling opportunities.
  • Strong negotiation, leadership, and sales skills required to develop client relationships, prospects, and partner networks.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex or difficult concepts effectively.
  • High degree of flexibility and adaptability to change.
  • Ability to interpret internal and external business challenges and recommend best practices to improve products, processes, or services.
  • Ability to communicate difficult concepts and influence others to adopt alternative points of view.
  • Requires specialized depth and/or breadth of expertise within the job discipline or functional area. Experience & Education
  • At least 5 years of experience in financial analysis and client servicing, commercial lending, or leasing.
  • May lead functional teams or projects with moderate resource requirements, risk, and/or complexity.
