Job Description
Purpose The Member Service Representative is responsible for providing exceptional member service while accurately processing a variety of financial transactions. As the face of the credit union, the Member Service Representative builds relationships with members, identifies financial needs, and promotes products and services that enhance members' financial well-being. Duties and Responsibilities Handle all member transactions including over the counter, phone transactions and mail transactions. Welcome members in a friendly, professional, and courteous manner. Responsible for opening accounts for new members. Maintain knowledge of all state and federal regulations that are applicable to the transactions performed in the teller area. Maintain, balance and operate a cash drawer within credit union Internal Cash Procedures standards with acceptable balancing record. Responsible for return mail and maintaining good addresses on members. Follow "Internal Control Cash Policies & Procedures" guidelines that have been provided to maintain a secure environment in the teller area. Place appropriate holds on checks as specified in the "Expedited Funds Availability" policy to limit the losses as a result of fraudulent activity. Responsible for opening and closing accounts for members including filing new account cards and pulling closed account cards. Maintain confidentiality of member information and adhere to all privacy and security policies. Research accounts for deposit, withdrawal, and loan payment discrepancies and/or provide account reconciliation assistance to members. This includes reviewing account history, copies of statements, and/or obtaining check copies. Responsible for issuing, mailing, and balancing credit union checks on a daily basis. Responsible for sorting & distributing mail. Maintain front lobby and service counters for member use. Maintain and supply teller area ordering supplies or equipment as needed. Filing/Scanning should be completed promptly. Assist with credit union promotions including the decoration of the lobby and the cross selling of promoted services. Mortgage verifications should be completed and returned within 3 business days. Archive daily work records on a quarterly basis. Includes boxing, labeling, recording and scheduling transportation to archive facility. Maintain Debit card records. Investigate and resolve Debit card failures or errors. Work closed account report monthly. Membership cards for closed accounts should be pulled and filed in the closed account file and archived annually. Order checks for members on Harland daily. Check Night Depository first thing every morning and post transactions under dual control. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. 2 years of previous cash handling and member service required. 1 year of prior banking or credit union experience required. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Basic math proficiency and computer skills. Ability to work in a fast paced environment while maintaining a positive, member-focused attitude.
