This role assists in meeting all legal, regulatory, operational and ethical obligations under Maryland COMAR 36.10, Michigan MGCB rules, federal AML requirements and industry standards governing sports wagering and iGaming. The AML & Payments Officer works closely with the Head of Risk & Compliance & COO, and state regulators to ensure the business operates with integrity, transparency and full regulatory compliance. Key Responsibilities Regulatory Compliance Program Management Assist in developing, implementing, and maintaining the Groups' compliance program across Maryland and other jurisdictions. Ensure adherence to state-specific rules, including
COMAR 36.10
(Maryland). Draft, review and maintain all regulatory policies and internal controls, including AML, KYC/CIP, OFAC, Responsible Gambling, Incident Response, Vendor Oversight, Change Management and Data Security. Payments Assist the COO and Head of Risk and Compliance in the management of third-party payment methods Oversight of the Payments reporting and risk management AML/BSA and Sanctions Oversight Assist the Head of Risk & Compliance in the oversight of customer identification (CIP), enhanced due diligence (EDD), suspicious activity monitoring and SAR filing procedures. Administrative compliance tasks with the Bank Secrecy Act, FinCEN requirements, OFAC sanctions guidance and relevant federal law. Responsible Gambling and Customer Protection Assist the Head of Risk & Compliance in the oversight and implementation of responsible gambling tools, disclosures and customer protection controls. Review marketing, promotions and loyalty programs to ensure compliance with responsible gambling standards. Enterprise Risk Management Own the administrative duties in relation to the business's risk register, risk assessment methodologies, mitigation frameworks and reporting mechanisms. Identify operational, regulatory, cybersecurity, financial and partner risks across all business lines. Lead risk reviews across trading, payments, operations, technology and marketing. Support investigations into operational failures, fraud, system issues, or customer-impacting incidents. Vendor Oversight and Due Diligence Conduct regulatory due diligence on all vendors, including sportsbook engines, KYC vendors, payments processors, data suppliers and retail technology partners. Ensure vendors meet required compliance, cybersecurity, OFAC and responsible gambling standards. Maintain vendor risk assessments and monitor compliance with service-level agreements and state requirements. Regulatory Submissions and Licensing Support Prepare materials for state licensing applications, renewals and suitability reviews. Support background checks for executives, key employees, investors and vendors. Assist the Head of Risk and Compliance with required financial, AML and operational compliance reports to regulators. Training and Culture Develop and deliver compliance training for employees on AML, responsible gambling, data privacy, fraud prevention and regulatory obligations. Promote a culture of integrity, transparency and regulatory accountability. Ensure all staff understand their compliance responsibilities and escalation pathways. Collaboration and Communication Work cross-functionally with operations, trading, payments, tech, marketing and executive leadership to ensure all activities align with regulatory expectations. Provide compliance guidance on new products, promotions, markets and partnerships. Prepare reports for the CEO, Board of Managers and regulators summarising compliance performance, risks and key issues. Qualifications Required Minimum 1-3 years' experience in compliance, risk management, AML/BSA, or regulatory operations within sports wagering, iGaming, fintech, financial services, or similarly regulated sectors. Strong knowledge of U.S. regulatory frameworks including Maryland COMAR 36.10 and federal AML/sanctions requirements. Direct experience with AML programs, KYC/CIP controls, sanctions screening, SAR filing and transaction-monitoring systems. Strong understanding of internal controls, risk analysis, audits and regulator expectations. Ability to work directly with state regulators, auditors and law enforcement entities. Preferred Experience with sportsbook/iGaming platforms, PAM systems, data feeds, risk engines and betting operations. Experience in retail sportsbook compliance, kiosk oversight, or casino-floor regulatory environments. Experience working in or supporting startup or high-growth companies.
