Job Description
Prior Authorization Specialist Audiology Company Overview Flagstaff Surgical Associates (FSA) is a busy multi-specialty medical clinic serving Northern Arizona. Our services include General Surgery, Urology, ENT, Audiology, and Allergy care. FSA prides itself on compassionate patient care and delivering high-quality healthcare. Position Overview The Audiology Prior Authorization Specialist is responsible for obtaining authorizations for audiology-related services and in-office procedures performed within FSA practices. This position ensures timely verification of insurance benefits, accurate authorization processing, and effective communication with patients, providers, and insurance carriers to support quality patient care and reimbursement accuracy.
Primary Responsibilities Authorization Review & Verification:
Verify insurance eligibility and benefits for scheduled audiology services and in-office procedures. Review procedures to determine prior authorization requirements based on payer guidelines and internal protocols. Maintain accurate documentation of authorization requirements, approvals, denials, and related communications within the patient record. Ensure all required authorizations are obtained prior to the date of service.Authorization Processing:
Initiate authorization requests by completing required forms and gathering supporting clinical documentation. Submit authorization requests to insurance payers, facilities, or third-party organizations as appropriate. Monitor pending authorizations and follow up regularly to secure timely determinations. Coordinate corrections, appeals, or resubmissions when necessary. Confirm no procedure requiring authorization is performed without documented approval.Billing & Patient Support:
Create and process bills of sale. Inform patients of estimated out-of-pocket costs and financial responsibility. Answer patient questions regarding insurance coverage, authorizations, and billing-related concerns.Collaboration & Workflow Support:
Work closely with providers, clinical staff, schedulers, and the billing department to resolve authorization discrepancies or obtain missing information. Communicate payer policy updates, authorization requirements, and workflow changes to appropriate staff members. Answer and return prior authorization-related phone calls and voicemails promptly and professionally. Maintain organized and accurate records to support workflow efficiency and continuity of care. Perform additional administrative or departmental support duties as assigned by management.Compliance:
Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and company policies. Maintain patient confidentiality and accurate medical documentation at all times.Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications:
Previous medical prior authorization or insurance verification experience preferred. Knowledge of audiology procedures and medical terminology preferred. Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) systems and standard office software. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Excellent communication and customer service skills. A team mindset with a focus on patient-first service.Benefits:
