Job Description

Do you want your work to truly matter? Healthcare for the Homeless is seeking a compassionate, detail-oriented Certified Medical Assistant / Prior Authorization Specialist (CMA/PAS) to support providers delivering high-quality, dignified care to individuals experiencing homelessness, housing instability, or limited access to healthcare. This is a 30 hour/week position and is benefits eligible. In this role, you'll combine hands-on clinical support with care coordination and prior authorization work, helping remove barriers so patients can access the care they need.
Responsibilities:
Support providers during patient visits, exams, and procedures, including preparation, assistance, and post-procedure monitoring Obtain and document vital signs, patient history, medications, allergies, and preventative care information Prepare exam rooms and instrument trays, including sterile procedures Perform point-of-care testing, specimen handling, and lab processing in accordance with CLIA and program guidelines Administer vaccines and assist with diagnostic testing (EKG, hearing, vision, breathing tests) as directed Obtain prior authorizations for medications and diagnostic procedures; communicate approvals or denials to providers Monitor insurance formularies and keep the care team informed of changes Schedule follow-up visits and support patient education as directed Serve as a liaison between patients, providers, and internal/external partners Assist patients in navigating healthcare and community-based services, including escorting as needed Job Requirements High School Diploma or GED (required) Graduate of an approved Medical Assistant program Certified or Registered Medical Assistant (CMA/RMA) required within 6 months of hire Basic Life Support (BLS) certification 2-3 years of experience in a healthcare setting, including administrative or insurance-related work Strong data entry and basic computer skills Experience working with, or a strong commitment to serving vulnerable populations Valid driver's license or ability to travel to off-site locations Why Join Us?
