Commercial Lines Manager - KS

Job Description

The Commercial Lines Manager is responsible for the day-to-day leadership, performance, workflow management, and operational oversight of the Commercial Lines Department while maintaining an active underwriting role. This "player-coach" position balances management responsibilities (approximately 75%) with direct underwriting production (approximately 25%). The Front-Line Manager supports agency profitability and growth by leading underwriting staff; monitoring assigned underwriter, team and department performance; ensuring adherence to workflows and carrier guidelines; and fostering a culture of accountability, service excellence, and continuous improvement. This role serves as the primary resource for staff development, operational efficiency, internal audits, reporting, and carrier relationship management while also helping underwrite within our book of business. Education Four-year college degree or equivalent industry experience. Experience Minimum 5-10 years of Commercial Property & Casualty underwriting experience. Excess & Surplus Lines experience. Minimum 2 years of leadership, supervisory, mentoring, or coaching experience. Licensure Active State Property & Casualty License. (Preferred) Skills & Competencies Advanced technical underwriting knowledge. Strong understanding of commercial insurance coverages, markets, and carrier guidelines. Proven leadership, coaching, and team development abilities. Strong analytical and reporting skills. Excellent organizational and time management skills. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and agency management systems. Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment
