Job Description

Position Summary:
This non-exempt, non-supervisory position performs multi-family loan underwriting and related credit, property, income, collateral, and legal analysis. The position reviews loan submissions, applies AHFC statutes, regulations, policies, procedures, and underwriting criteria, and recommends action on loan requests. The position regularly uses MITAS, the Corporation's official loan information system, and MURF (Multi-Family Underwriter Review Findings), the working underwriting repository used to document reviews and retain underwriting records.

Within the Mortgage Operations Department, the Multi-Family Underwriter I performs routine to moderately complex underwriting assignments with general supervision. The position independently analyzes loan submissions and recommends action in accordance with established AHFC requirements. More complex, atypical or unconventional transactions may require guidance from the Multi-Family Lending Manager or senior underwriting staff. The position is expected to maintain accurate, complete, and timely loan information in MITAS and to organize underwriting documentation in MURF in accordance with established file structures and records-retention requirements.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Under the Multi-Family Loan Purchase Program, reviews loan submission requests, including credit, income, collateral, and appraisal analysis. Analyzes the loan request and recommends acceptance or denial based on established AHFC criteria. Under Direct Lending programs, processes and underwrites multi-family, congregate, special needs, senior housing, and condominium association loan applications from receipt of the application through closing. Reviews applicable financial, credit, property, legal, and collateral documentation and recommends action based on established AHFC criteria. Enters, reviews, and maintains loan information in MITAS, ensuring information is accurate, complete, and consistent with approved loan terms and supporting documentation. Uses MURF as the working platform for underwriting reviews; uploads, organizes, and maintains underwriting documentation in accordance with established file structures, naming conventions, and records-retention requirements so that the underwriting record remains complete and accessible. Prepares underwriting recommendations, reports, correspondence, and supporting analyses. Responds to inquiries from lenders, borrowers, housing providers, and other stakeholders regarding AHFC multi-family lending programs and underwriting requirements. May present underwriting recommendations to Department or Executive Loan Committees, as assigned. Provides information and technical assistance to lenders and other stakeholders regarding program eligibility, application procedures, documentation requirements, and underwriting criteria. May assist with lender or staff training regarding AHFC multi-family lending programs and underwriting requirements. Assists with maintenance and revision of program guides, seller/servicer communications, underwriting procedures, and development or revision of loan programs, as assigned. Performs other duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
Multi-family lending principles, including credit and income analysis, appraisal review, inspection and engineer reports, purchase underwriting, property values and market trends; AHFC statutes, regulations, program requirements, policies, and procedures; and fundamental records-management practices.
Skills and Abilities:
Planning and organizing workload; compiling, analyzing, and evaluating financial and property data; drawing sound conclusions; preparing clear, complete, and concise written communications; communicating effectively with internal and external contacts; applying established lending criteria; maintaining accurate electronic loan records; following established file structures and documentation standards; meeting competing deadlines; adapting to changing circumstances; and using Microsoft Office Suite, MITAS, Adobe Acrobat, and
MURF. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS A
bachelor's degree from an accredited college in business, finance, banking, economics, real estate, or a closely related field and three or more years of progressively responsible mortgage, commercial real estate, or multi-family lending experience. Relevant experience may include credit analysis, loan processing, underwriting, closing, servicing, auditing, or other directly related lending functions. Experience must include substantial responsibility for underwriting and credit analysis.
