PM Location:
Meriden, CT (Onsite | Not Remote) Position Overview Wheeler Staffing Partners is seeking a Default Fulfillment Underwriter to join our client's team in Meriden, CT. This role is responsible for reviewing, analyzing, and processing borrower requests for loan modifications, short sales, and deeds-in-lieu. The Default Fulfillment Underwriter ensures compliance with all required documentation, validates borrower income and assets, and performs debt-to-income calculations to support accurate decision-making. Key Responsibilities Review and analyze borrower requests for loan modifications, short sales, and deeds-in-lieu. Audit packages to confirm all required borrower documentation is submitted. Collaborate with Default Servicing Processors and Mitigation Coordinators to resolve missing items. Review borrower financial and income documentation, including paystubs and tax returns. Validate borrower income and assets; review credit reports. Perform manual calculations of front-end and back-end Debt-to-Income (DTI) ratios. Calculate new monthly payments based on modified loan rates. Provide modification findings to Default Servicing Management for decision-making. Partner with Default Closers to prepare and send final modification agreements to borrowers. Complete HAMP and FHLMC reporting as required. Recommend denial of workout options when borrowers are not eligible, ensuring manager review. Maintain compliance with all regulatory requirements, including CFPB guidelines. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Required:
High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum 5 years of experience in mortgage underwriting, collections, or loss mitigation. Minimum 2 years of experience in mortgage loan servicing. Strong understanding of the loan modification process. Knowledge of mortgage loan documents and CFPB regulations. Experience reviewing complex financial documentation and credit reports. Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Strong customer service commitment. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and mortgage origination systems.
Preferred:
