Insurance - Commercial Lines About the Role Our client is seeking a detail-oriented, analytical, and customer‑focused Commercial Underwriter to join their Honolulu team. In this role, you will evaluate, price, and structure commercial insurance policies while balancing risk, profitability, and strong agency relationships. This position is ideal for an underwriting professional who thrives in a collaborative environment and enjoys supporting the growth of a well‑established commercial lines portfolio in the Hawaii market. Key Responsibilities Underwriting & Risk Assessment Analyze, evaluate, and underwrite new and renewal commercial accounts within established authority levels. Review financial statements, loss runs, inspection reports, and other underwriting data to assess risk exposures. Determine appropriate coverage terms, pricing, and conditions in accordance with company guidelines. Maintain high underwriting quality and adherence to regulatory and internal compliance requirements. Portfolio & Account Management Manage a balanced and profitable book of business across multiple commercial lines (e.g., property, general liability, auto, package policies). Monitor account performance and recommend corrective actions as needed. Maintain accurate documentation and ensure timely processing of policy changes, endorsements, and renewals. Agency & Client Relationships Develop and maintain strong relationships with independent agents and brokers in the Hawaii region. Serve as a point of contact for underwriting inquiries, product knowledge, and appetite guidance. Conduct agency visits, training sessions, and joint marketing efforts to support growth and retention. Collaboration & Continuous Improvement Work closely with underwriting leadership, actuarial, claims, loss control, and operations teams. Identify market trends and competitive insights to guide underwriting decisions. Support the development of new products, pricing strategies, and internal initiatives. Qualifications Required 2-5+ years of commercial underwriting experience (property & casualty). Strong understanding of underwriting principles, risk selection, and rating methodologies. Excellent analytical, communication, and negotiation skills. Ability to make sound decisions while balancing risk and business objectives. Proficiency with underwriting systems, policy management tools, and Microsoft Office. Preferred Experience underwriting business in Hawaii or Pacific Island markets. Professional designations (AINS, AU, CPCU) or progress toward certifications. Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management, or related field.
