Senior Underwriter Location:
New Brunswick, NJ (3-4 days onsite)
Salary:
$135K-$145K + discretionary bonus ? Overview We are partnering with a client seeking an experienced Senior Underwriter to support complex lending transactions. This role is ideal for a professional who thrives in a hands-on, analytical environment and can independently manage deals from initial review through closing. ? Key Responsibilities Lead underwriting for complex credit transactions , including construction and structured finance deals Evaluate borrower financials, project budgets, and associated risks Prepare detailed credit analyses and recommendations for approval Manage the full deal lifecycle , from initial screening through closing Develop and maintain financial models to support underwriting decisions Collaborate with internal teams across credit, legal, and portfolio management Ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulatory requirements ? Required Qualifications 7-10+ years of experience in commercial lending, structured finance, or community development finance Strong background in credit underwriting and financial analysis Advanced proficiency in Excel and financial modeling Demonstrated ability to work independently and make sound credit decisions Experience assessing construction projects and development-related transactions ? Preferred Qualifications Exposure to complex capital structures (e.g., tax credits, subsidies, participations) Familiarity with community development or nonprofit lending environments Knowledge of specialized programs such as NMTC or similar initiatives Experience with loan management systems (e.g., Loans.net or comparable tools) ? Ideal Candidate Background in a commercial bank, CDFI, real estate lender, or structured finance firm Experience underwriting real estate and development-focused transactions Comfortable operating in a mission-driven or impact-focused environment Strong communication skills with the ability to present analyses clearly Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple deals simultaneously
