Job Description

JOB TITLE
Junior Underwriter NOTE:
This position is NOT remote and will be required to be onsite full-time. Position Summary The Junior Underwriter is responsible for supporting the underwriting process by reviewing, verifying, and validating customer information and documentation for credit applications. This role plays a critical part in ensuring the accuracy and completeness of loan files prior to final underwriting review and decision-making. The Junior Underwriter works closely with applicants, sales staff, and senior underwriting personnel to gather required documentation, identify discrepancies, and ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements. Key Responsibilities Review incoming credit applications for completeness and accuracy. Verify applicant income, employment, residency, insurance, references, and other required supporting documentation. Contact employers, applicants, references, and third parties as needed to validate information provided on credit applications. Review pay stubs, bank statements, tax returns, and other financial documentation to confirm income and repayment ability. Obtain and review credit bureau reports and other supporting reports. Identify discrepancies, missing information, or potential fraud indicators and escalate concerns to senior underwriting staff. Ensure all loan files meet company documentation standards prior to underwriting review and funding. Assist senior underwriters in evaluating creditworthiness and loan structure recommendations. Maintain accurate and organized electronic and physical loan files. Enter, update, and maintain customer and loan information within company systems. Communicate documentation requirements, stipulations, and application status updates to sales staff in a timely manner. Monitor application pipelines to ensure timely processing and follow-up. Ensure all activities comply with company policies, underwriting guidelines, and applicable federal and state regulations. Assist with post-approval reviews, funding conditions, and quality control audits as needed. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred. Previous experience in loan processing, underwriting support, finance, banking, collections, customer service, or automotive finance preferred. Experience with NEO application processing platform is a plus. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to review and verify financial and personal documentation accurately. Basic understanding of credit reports and lending principles. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and dealership management systems. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with professionalism and discretion. Preferred Skills and Competencies Knowledge of consumer lending and credit review processes. Strong investigative and problem-solving abilities. Ability to identify inconsistencies and potential fraud indicators. Strong time management and follow-up skills. Team-oriented mindset with a willingness to learn underwriting principles and credit analysis. High level of integrity and ethical decision-making. Performance Metrics Accuracy and completeness of verified loan files. Timeliness of application processing and verification activities. Documentation quality and audit readiness. Compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements. Reduction of documentation deficiencies and funding delays. Effectiveness in identifying discrepancies and potential fraud risks. Work Requirements Ability to work extended shifts, including 10- to 12-hour workdays, as required to meet operational demands. Availability to work Saturdays as business needs dictate. Ability to sit for extended periods while reviewing applications and documentation. Ability to communicate effectively with customers, employees, and third-party verification sources.
