In this role, you will be responsible for evaluating mortgage applications and determining the creditworthiness of potential borrowers. The ideal candidate will possess strong negotiation skills and a deep understanding of financial services, ensuring that all underwriting processes are conducted efficiently and accurately. Responsibilities Review and analyze mortgage loan applications, including credit reports, income documentation, and asset verification. Conduct thorough risk analysis to assess the likelihood of borrower repayment. Utilize financial modeling techniques to evaluate cash flow and overall financial health of applicants. Perform quantitative research to support underwriting decisions and identify potential risks. Collaborate with loan processors to ensure all necessary documentation is collected and verified. Prepare detailed financial reports outlining findings and recommendations for loan approvals or denials. Monitor compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies throughout the underwriting process. Engage in fraud prevention and detection efforts by identifying red flags in applications. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, mortgage servicing practices, and technical accounting standards. Requirements Proven experience in underwriting, loan origination, or related financial services roles. Strong understanding of financial concepts including credit analysis, equity research, and portfolio management. Proficiency in data collection and financial analysis techniques, with a focus on cash flow analysis. Excellent math skills with the ability to perform complex calculations accurately. Familiarity with financial software tools used in mortgage processing and underwriting. Demonstrated ability to conduct forecasting and quantitative analysis effectively. Knowledge of accounting principles as they relate to mortgage lending practices. Strong communication skills for effective negotiation with clients and stakeholders. Attention to detail with a commitment to maintaining high standards of accuracy in all work. Experience in tax-related issues is a plus.
