Job Description
An established mortgage organization is seeking an experienced Senior Mortgage Loan Underwriter to join its team. This role is responsible for reviewing, analyzing, and underwriting residential mortgage loan applications to ensure compliance with agency, investor, and regulatory guidelines.
The ideal candidate is a strong independent decision-maker with deep knowledge of government and conventional underwriting standards and the ability to manage a high-volume pipeline in a deadline-driven environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesUnderwrite residential mortgage loan files in accordance with FHA, VA, USDA, FNMA, FHLMC, and internal guidelinesIndependently assess borrower risk, including income, assets, credit, and collateralReview loan documentation for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with regulatory requirements (TRID, RESPA, CFPB)Analyze automated underwriting system (AUS) findings and perform manual underwriting when appropriateCommunicate with loan officers, processors, and other stakeholders to resolve conditions and deficienciesManage underwriting pipeline to meet closing timelines and rate lock deadlinesReview appraisals and ensure properties meet program and investor requirementsProvide guidance and expertise on underwriting scenarios and complex loan structures
