Full Job Description Description:
Who We Are We are a licensed C-10 electrical contractor based in Sacramento, serving commercial and multifamily across Northern California. We're a growing, owner-led company, and we're looking for an experienced accounting professional to take full ownership of our financial operations and business administration. The Role This is a hands-on, full-charge position reporting directly to the owner. You'll run accounting, payroll, payments, lien compliance, insurance, and benefits from start to finish. If you know construction accounting, like owning your work, and want a role where you make a visible difference, we'd like to hear from you. What You'll Do Accounting Manage full-cycle accounting in
Sage:
AP, AR, general ledger, and month-end close Maintain accurate job costing and prepare monthly WIP schedules Prepare progress billings (AIA or similar) and track retention Reconcile bank and credit card accounts monthly Prepare monthly financial statements and review them with the owner Strengthen cash management, reconciliation, and internal controls Support upgrades to accounting software and systems Coordinate with our outside CPA on taxes and year-end close Payments & Collections Prepare and schedule vendor, supplier, and subcontractor payments for owner approval Verify vendor banking information and follow payment security procedures Manage collections on past-due accounts Collect lien releases before releasing payments Preliminary Notices & Liens Send preliminary notices on every project within required deadlines Track lien deadlines on all active projects Prepare mechanics liens, stop payment notices, and payment bond claims when needed Manage conditional and unconditional lien waivers Payroll & HR Administration Process payroll, including certified payroll for public works projects Prepare final paychecks in compliance with California law, including vacation payouts Track and process raises and pay changes, with required notices and documentation Track vacation, sick leave, and time off Maintain payroll records and personnel files Provide payroll and employment information to the owner, employees, auditors, and agencies Handle new hire paperwork and onboarding Insurance & Benefits Administration Coordinate business insurance renewals and quotes (GL, workers' comp, auto, umbrella) with our broker Obtain and compare employee benefits quotes for owner review Administer benefits enrollment, changes, and COBRA/Cal-COBRA notices Issue certificates of insurance and collect current COIs from subcontractors Support workers' comp and general liability premium audits Systems Administration Maintain company logins and credentials in our password manager, including onboarding and offboarding user access What We're Looking For 5+ years of full-charge accounting experience, including 3+ years in construction (electrical or specialty contractor a strong plus) Hands-on experience with Sage (Sage 100 Contractor or Sage 300 CRE preferred) Strong knowledge of job costing, WIP, and progress billing Experience with California preliminary notices, mechanics liens, and lien waivers Knowledge of California payroll and wage-and-hour rules, including prevailing wage and certified payroll Experience working with insurance brokers and administering employee benefits Advanced Excel skills Highly organized, deadline-driven, and trustworthy with sensitive financial information Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance preferred; equivalent experience considered What We Offer $85,000 - $100,000 annually, based on experience Health / dental / vision Retirement Direct access to ownership and a real voice in how we build our financial operations The top of the pay range is for candidates with strong construction accounting, lien, certified payroll, and benefits administration experience.
