Job Description

Title:
Payroll Supervisor Compensation:
$75,000 - $95,000
Location:
San Diego (hybrid, 80-90% onsite)
Overview:
Seeking a Payroll Supervisor to lead end-to-end payroll operations in a complex, multi-entity environment. This role oversees payroll processing across salaried, hourly, and stipend-based populations while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and international payroll regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee full-cycle payroll processing with a focus on accuracy and timeliness Manage and mentor payroll staff, including training and performance oversight Ensure compliance across multi-state payroll and applicable tax regulations Review payroll inputs including timekeeping, compensation changes, and deductions Partner cross-functionally to resolve discrepancies and support employee inquiries Lead payroll audits and maintain data integrity within payroll systems Support reporting and continuous process improvements Oversee payroll compliance for foreign national workforce, including specialized tax reporting Maintain international tax systems and related documentation processes
Minimum Qualifications:
5+ years of progressive payroll experience, including 3+ years in a supervisory role Strong understanding of payroll compliance and regulations Experience with payroll systems such as Workday, UKG, or similar Advanced Excel proficiency Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) Experience with multi-state and/or international payroll Exposure to complex or global payroll environments Determining compensation for this role (and others) at Vaco/Highspring depends upon a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual's skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, office location and other geographic considerations, as well as other business and organizational needs. With that said, as required by local law in geographies that require salary range disclosure, Vaco/Highspring notes the salary range for the role is noted in this job posting. The individual may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses, and can participate in medical, dental, and vision benefits as well as the company's 401(k) retirement plan.
