Job Summary:
This is a full-time position working closely with the payroll supervisor and performs all activities necessary to process payrolls, including maintaining records, oversee departmental security regarding banking and transactions, filing tax reports, voluntary deduction reports, processing involuntary deductions such as levies and garnishments, preparing accounting transactions and documents, documenting and updating procedures, and preparing special reports for senior management. Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local payroll and wage laws and best practices. Manages the activities of the payroll department in carrying out responsibility for payroll preparation, processing, reporting, benefits-records administration, or payroll systems maintenance. This is a "working supervisor" position who spends more than 50% of their time personally performing payroll processing and related activities. This position reports to the Payroll Supervisor. This position is a management track position. Weekends and overtime may be required based on training and seasonal needs.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Maintains payroll work calendar, ensuring the timely payment and reporting of payroll withholdings and pay,
- Works with the Supervisor to oversee the day-to-day efficiency of the Payroll Department and makes changes and suggestions to maintain and increase efficiency,
- Process multiple payroll transactions including checks, direct deposits, benefits, garnishments, taxes and other deductions,
- Provides timely and constructive feedback along with annual reviews for the Payroll Department staff, including hiring and termination decisions,
- Facilitates audits by providing records and documentation to auditors, and maintaining knowledge and departmental Department of Labor regulation compliance,
- Discuss and guide current and potential clients towards the best solution for their business payroll needs,
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, Business, or related area, or
- Associate's degree in accounting, Finance, Business, or related area, with 2+ years of directly related experience or
- 5+ years of experience performing the duties of the position as described above, plus a professional payroll certification may substitute for the degree requirements.
