Job Description

Our client is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Payroll Manager to oversee end-to-end payroll operations for a large, multi-state workforce. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate, compliant, and timely payroll processing while supporting reporting, audits, and cross-functional communication. The ideal candidate brings strong technical payroll expertise, a process-driven mindset, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage and process weekly payroll for 2,100+ salaried and hourly employees across multiple facilities and states, ensuring accuracy and timeliness Generate, analyze, and maintain payroll reports for Accounting, Finance, and external auditors using Excel, ADP Workforce Now, and/or Paycom Perform payroll reconciliations and support internal and external audits, ensuring proper recordkeeping and compliance Administer payroll-related activities including garnishments, terminations, tax notices, and benefit changes Calculate and process payments to benefit providers, including health and retirement plans, based on payroll reporting Serve as a key point of contact for payroll-related inquiries from management, plant leadership, and employees; provide analysis and guidance as needed Develop and deliver recurring and ad hoc reporting to support business needs and leadership visibility Ensure timely and accurate communication of payroll data and insights to company leadership Supervise and mentor a Payroll Administrator, ensuring high performance and process consistency Support broader finance and accounting initiatives and projects as needed
Qualifications:
7+ years of progressive payroll experience, preferably in a multi-state environment Hands-on experience with Paycom and/or ADP Workforce Now Strong understanding of payroll compliance, including wage and hour laws, garnishments, tax regulations, and multi-state requirements Experience in union environments and labor reporting is a plus Advanced Excel skills with the ability to manage and analyze large datasets High level of integrity and ability to maintain strict confidentiality with sensitive employee data Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and meet strict deadlines in a detail-oriented environment
