Job Description

SOHDental is a fast-growing organization putting people first. Now nearly 500 people strong, our Dental Support Organization (DSO) affiliates with successful dental practices throughout the US. Our model is to leverage our efficiencies, expertise, and economies-of-scale at our Chesterfield (St. Louis), Missouri Shared Support Center to handle the back-office functions for our 40+ dental practices, thus removing the practitioners' burdens of running a business and allowing them to focus on delivering the highest patient care outcomes. We are currently seeking an experienced and resourceful Payroll Manager to lead our payroll operations. This role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of multi-state payroll processing for a growing team of close to five hundred employees. The ideal candidate is analytical, detail-oriented, and solves problems independently. Effective communication skills, excellent organizational abilities, and a flexible mindset are essential for success in this position, especially as responsibilities may sometimes fall outside of regular business hours. This is a hybrid position, with a combination of remote work and in office. At SOHDental, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with a dedicated team in a fast-growing company that values innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement. We offer competitive salary, comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k) retirement plan, paid time off, paid holidays, and the chance to grow with a company that is changing the future of dentistry. Key Responsibilities Manage full-cycle payroll for salaried, hourly, clinical, and non-clinical staff across twelve states, including bi-weekly staff and monthly doctor and bonus payrolls. Ensure compliance and remain current with ongoing changes in federal, state, and local payroll laws, including wage and hour regulations, tax obligations, ACA reporting, and wage garnishments. Maintain payroll data accuracy in ADP, including onboarding, terminations, job changes, compensation updates, earning/deduction codes, and payroll corrections. Coordinate with HR and Finance to align payroll with benefits (medical, dental, 401(k)), worker's compensation, and leave management (FMLA, ADA). Partner with Finance and Accounting teams to manage, map and review General Ledger (GL) reports, ensuring accurate payroll data integration and alignment with financial reporting standards. Oversee all state unemployment claims. Manage all state tax accounts, including State Unemployment Insurance (SUI), State Income Tax (SIT), and other applicable state and federal tax accounts. Generate payroll reports and analysis to support budgeting, headcount planning, audits, and leadership decision-making. Oversee year-end and quarterly activities, including W-2 distribution, 1095-C filings, tax reconciliations, unemployment reporting, and responses to claims. Serve as the primary payroll contact, resolving employee and manager inquiries and supporting general accounting with payroll-related reconciliations. Lead payroll compliance and process improvement efforts, ensuring audit readiness and driving automation and efficiency through SOP development and optimization.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university AND at least 2 years of general ledger experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 3-5 years of experience managing multi-state payroll for 500+ employees. Prior management experience is strongly preferred. FPC or CPP certification is preferred. Strong knowledge of federal and state payroll regulations. Proficient with payroll systems, ideally ADP, and related accounting software. Proven experience with payroll tax filings, unemployment claims, and wage garnishments. Exceptional attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and organizational abilities. Ability to work independently and adapt to evolving business needs. Willingness to work flexible hours when required. If you are ready to join a dynamic and mission-driven team, we welcome you to submit your resume and look forward to the opportunity to meet with you!
