Job Description

We are looking for a Payroll Manager to lead accurate, compliant payroll operations for a multi-state workforce in the Salt Lake City area. This position oversees end-to-end payroll review and approval, strengthens internal controls, and ensures payroll data is validated before each processing cycle. The role also partners across HR, finance, and compliance functions to support reporting, tax filings, audits, and continuous improvement within Paycom.
Responsibilities:
  • Oversee each payroll cycle by validating employee data changes, pay calculations, hours worked, deductions, and special wage requirements before final submission.
  • Act as the primary approval authority for payroll processing, including regular, bonus, off-cycle, manual, and corrected payments.
  • Reconcile payroll-related accounting activity by confirming journal entries are posted correctly and balancing payroll general ledger accounts during pay periods and month-end close.
  • Review court-ordered deductions and tax-related withholdings to ensure setup accuracy, proper priority, and compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Manage payroll operations in Paycom by clearing audit reports, reviewing pre-processing registers, monitoring imports, and maintaining reporting that supports compliance and internal review.
  • Administer payroll system controls by overseeing user access, permission structures, approval workflows, and periodic access audits to reduce risk.
  • Coordinate quarterly and annual payroll tax activities, including review of filings, wage statements, corrections, and jurisdictional tax setup for multiple states and localities.
  • Support certified and prevailing-wage payroll requirements by reviewing required reports and maintaining documentation aligned with contract and regulatory standards.
  • Lead or assist with internal and external payroll audits, investigate discrepancies to identify root causes, and implement corrective actions that improve long-term accuracy.
  • Supervise payroll support staff by setting priorities, providing training and coaching, and facilitating regular team communication to maintain service quality and accountability.
