About Big 5 Sporting Goods Big 5 Sporting Goods is a leading retailer of name-brand sporting goods and accessories, with hundreds of stores in 11 states across the Western U.S. We're passionate about delivering value and performance to our customers—and we're looking for a Payroll Specialist to join our team. Role Overview The Payroll Specialist plays a key role in ensuring the accurate and timely administration of payroll while maintaining the highest standards of confidentiality and regulatory compliance. This position reports to the Payroll Manager and is based at Big 5 Sporting Goods corporate headquarters in El Segundo, California. The role is currently onsite; however, a hybrid work arrangement may be considered in the future based on individual performance and business needs. Responsibilities include payroll processing and administration, garnishment management, employee payroll support, and the maintenance of payroll records. The ideal candidate is highly detail-oriented, organized, and experienced in managing in-house payroll functions within a fast-paced, high-volume environment. Key Responsibilities As a Payroll Specialist, you'll support the accurate and timely administration of payroll processes, including: Employee garnishments, including child support orders, tax levies, and student loan deductions. Payroll records management with a strong focus on confidentiality and data security. Payroll compliance through adherence to company policies and cybersecurity standards. Day to day, you'll: Research, analyze, and resolve payroll-related inquiries via phone and email. Process payroll transactions accurately while maintaining a high level of attention to detail. Manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment and consistently meet deadlines. Partner with Human Resources to address employee payroll matters and support payroll-related processes. Maintain organized, accurate, and confidential payroll records and documentation. Deliver exceptional customer service to employees while ensuring payroll accuracy and compliance.
