About Us Mago Construction Company is a family-owned and operated construction contractor and materials producer with operations throughout Kentucky. We are seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Part-Time Payroll Specialist to join our team and support payroll operations across our construction, asphalt, and quarry divisions. Position Summary The Part-Time Payroll Specialist is responsible for processing accurate and timely payroll for hourly and salaried employees while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations. This role works closely with Human Resources, Accounting, and Operations to maintain payroll records, review timekeeping data, support reporting and reconciliations, and ensure the integrity of payroll-related financial information. The ideal candidate will have payroll experience, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to manage confidential information with professionalism and discretion. Essential Responsibilities Process weekly payroll for hourly and salaried employees in accordance with company policies and payroll schedules. Review and verify employee timecards, labor allocations, job cost coding, and payroll data for accuracy. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local wage and hour laws. Process employee deductions, garnishments, child support orders, and other payroll-related transactions. Maintain employee payroll records, tax information, direct deposit changes, and payroll documentation. Assist with payroll tax reporting, reconciliations, and year-end processing activities. Support certified payroll reporting and prevailing wage requirements, as applicable. Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies in a timely manner. Respond to employee payroll inquiries professionally and confidentially. Collaborate with Human Resources regarding new hires, terminations, compensation changes, and benefit deductions. Generate payroll reports and provide payroll-related data to management as requested. Assist with audits and maintain payroll records in accordance with company and regulatory requirements. Perform other payroll and administrative duties as assigned. Qualifications Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred; equivalent payroll experience will be considered. Two to four years of payroll processing experience required. Construction industry payroll experience strongly preferred. Knowledge of payroll regulations, payroll tax requirements, wage and hour laws, and garnishment administration. Experience with certified payroll reporting, prevailing wage requirements, and construction job costing preferred. Experience with payroll, HRIS, and ERP systems preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel. Skills & Competencies Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking abilities. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with multiple departments. Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Physical Requirements Prolonged periods of sitting and working at a computer. Frequent walking, speaking, and hearing. Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds. Frequent reaching, stooping, and kneeling. Occasional travel to company facilities, including asphalt plants, construction sites, and rock quarries, may be required.
