Job Description

Description We are looking for a detail-oriented Payroll Administrator to support payroll operations for business units in Livonia, Michigan. This is a Contract position focused on delivering accurate multi-state, full-cycle payroll processing while maintaining compliance with company policies and applicable regulations. The role requires strong judgment, excellent organization, and the ability to manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment while providing responsive support on payroll-related matters.
Responsibilities:
Process weekly and biweekly payroll cycles for assigned business units, ensuring pay calculations, deductions, and employer obligations are completed accurately and on schedule. Maintain payroll records by updating employee information such as compensation changes, benefit deductions, leave activity, new hires, and separations. Review payroll data for completeness and accuracy, reconcile discrepancies, and support balancing activities tied to wage payments and related ledger entries. Administer involuntary deductions, including garnishments, levies, and child support orders, with proper documentation and timely follow-through. Investigate and resolve complex payroll questions raised by employees, managers, and partner teams with a high level of professionalism. Provide cross-coverage for additional payroll groups and assist the broader team during peak periods or absences. Compile payroll documentation and supporting details for audits, employment verifications, and unemployment-related requests. Identify opportunities to improve payroll workflows, document updated procedures, and help address system or processing issues as they arise. Requirements - At least two years of experience handling payroll processing and payroll data analysis. Background supporting full-cycle payroll in a multi-state, multi-company environment. Solid understanding of payroll compliance, deductions, tax withholdings, and employee pay records. Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to work effectively with payroll systems; ADP Workforce Now experience is valuable. Workday experience is preferred, and familiarity with Kronos Dimensions is an advantage. Excellent communication and customer service skills with the ability to handle sensitive matters professionally. Strong attention to detail, sound problem-solving ability, and the capacity to stay organized while managing multiple priorities. High school diploma required; additional college coursework is a plus.
