$52,995 - $55,636 Summary of Position Under the direction of the Payroll Supervisor, this position will provide confidential payroll services to the Saginaw ISD and local school districts to ensure efficient and accurate payroll processing. The Payroll Specialist is responsible for preparing and processing payroll data, ensuring accurate attendance reporting, maintaining confidential payroll-related files, providing accurate data reporting using the district Skyward Finance system, and offering professional support services to local school districts per contractual agreement. Essential Responsibilities Payroll Exemplify high standards of customer service at all times. Responsible for payroll processing for Saginaw ISD employees and LEAs that contract with Saginaw ISD for payroll services, ensuring compliance with District policies, labor agreements, and federal/state laws. Review and verify pay files to ensure accuracy and compliance. Assist in preparing Excel spreadsheets to reconcile gross wages for Saginaw ISD and LEAs. Assist in preparation and distribution of paychecks. Process remittances to agencies for payroll and benefit-related taxes. Maintain ledgers for payroll deductions and related information. Maintain confidential payroll files (W-4s, 403(b) agreements, garnishment letters, etc.). Prepare information for payment of payroll liabilities to Accounts Payable. Maintain garnishment compliance. Prepare and extract payroll system reports (Skyward) for internal and external needs. Work with auditors on payroll accounts. Verify correct processing of forms entered into Skyward. Communicate employee status information with departments and LEAs. Process mid-year and end-of-year stipends per collective bargaining agreements. Provide support to other staff as needed. Perform other duties and special projects assigned by the Payroll Supervisor. Attendance Tracking Accurately record all leave records according to guidelines and labor agreements. Review data status reports to ensure accuracy. Process statistical reports for personnel studies and union groups. Maintain collective sick bank records where applicable. Qualifications High School Diploma/GED required; Associate's Degree in Accounting, Business, or Finance preferred. Minimum two (2) years of payroll experience required; payroll experience in an educational setting preferred. Strong complex problem-solving skills. Ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain strong organization and communication. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. High proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google platforms, and especially Excel; ability to learn the Skyward Finance/HR system. Exemplary customer service skills, including tact, professionalism, and strong verbal/written communication. Strong confidentiality practices and adherence to sensitive data requirements. Demonstrated accuracy and timeliness with detailed work assignments. Highly organized, self-directed, and able to meet deadlines. Willingness to receive additional training as required and learn new department procedures.
