This position also performs related tasks as required and directed by the Deputy Auditor. Essential Functions Processes the OP&F Extra Pay Report on the first payroll of the month. Completes the pension reports monthly and handles inquiries regarding pension. Completes taxable clothing on a quarterly basis. Assists payroll administrator in processing child support payments and deferred compensation payments (Lincoln & Ohio Deferred Compensation) on every pay period. Pulls the ACA Report and processes it every pay period. Handles the processing of school taxes on a monthly basis. Coordinates with HR to confirm benefit elections and start dates, and updates benefits using the monthly HR payroll report while flagging any discrepancies. Supports the Payroll Administrator by ensuring pay, deductions, and records are correct while maintaining a high level of confidentiality and customer service. Provides back-up support to Payroll Administrator and processes citywide payroll in the absence of Payroll Administrator. Reviews incoming time sheets for accuracy and conformity to applicable City ordinances and union contracts; reviews various reports and payroll transactions for accuracy. Sets up new employees in the payroll system with accurate deductions Calculates bank leave payouts upon employee separation and researches to verify if the employee owes the City for tuition reimbursement, personal days, or HSA reimbursement. Processes off-cycle payrolls in compliance with ordinances and union contracts, including service credit pay, personal leave buybacks, clothing allowance, annual wellness exam pay, and sick leave conversions. •Regular, predictable, and punctual attendance is required. Experience:
Intermediate knowledge of Excel functions and data analysis preferred. One to three years of payroll or accounting support experience preferred Experience with public sector or union payrolls a plus Other Knowledge of Excel functions, data analysis, and Outlook Knowledge of payroll principles, practices, and applicable labor laws. Strong attention to detail and accuracy Proficiency with payroll systems, timekeeping software, and Microsoft Excel Knowledge of personnel policies and procedures as applied to payroll administration. General knowledge of current laws pertaining to pay. General knowledge of office software, including word processing, spreadsheet formats and payroll software Knowledge of collective bargaining agreements and administrative code relating to pay and benefits. Basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, ratios, etc. Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism Strong organizational and time-management skills Effective communication and customer service skills Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment Recognizing deficient processes and developing recommendations, methods, and procedures for improving efficiency with respect to payroll. Performing detailed work and complex calculations with a high degree of accuracy and identifying, researching, and resolving problems independently. Setting priorities and completing tasks within tight deadlines.
