Description Our client is looking for a payroll specialist to join their team. This role will be 100% remote but will need to be based in Houston.
Responsibilities:
Manage biweekly payroll processing across multiple states in ADP Workforce Now for several company codes, ensuring employees are paid correctly and on schedule.
Oversee high-volume payroll activity for both salaried and hourly populations, including payroll calculations, earnings review, deductions, and final validation before release.
Apply California payroll rules accurately, including state-specific pay practices, garnishment administration, and child support order processing.
Support employee reimbursement activity through Concur and help coordinate recurring wire payments required for designated employee groups.
Maintain payroll tax and compliance records by tracking state registrations, reviewing tax notices, and updating payroll data as needed across jurisdictions.
Enter and verify payroll-related information with a high level of accuracy while keeping supporting documentation organized and audit-ready.
Work closely with the payroll team to address compliance issues, share updates, and ensure continuity across day-to-day payroll operations.
Provide dependable support to field employees and internal partners by responding to payroll questions and promoting clear, consistent communication.
Adjust work hours during payroll cycles when needed to meet critical deadlines and preserve payroll accuracy.
Report to the office weekly to manage incoming mail, review physical documentation, and complete administrative payroll tasks. Requirements
At least 2 years of payroll experience, including direct use of ADP Workforce Now.
Proven ability to process payroll for multiple company codes in a multi-state environment.
Practical knowledge of California payroll requirements, including garnishments, child support orders, and related compliance matters.
Experience handling payroll tax IDs, tax notices, and supporting documentation with strong attention to detail.
Familiarity with expense and payment support tools such as Concur; exposure to payroll-related wire activity is a plus.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage several priorities in a fast-paced setting.
Effective communication skills and a detail-oriented, coachable approach to feedback and team collaboration.
Ability to work on-site in Houston, Texas at least once per week and remain flexible during peak payroll periods.
