Job Title:
Payroll Tax Specialist Job Description The Payroll Tax Specialist plays a crucial role in supporting the execution of payroll tax operations and compliance activities across federal, state, and local jurisdictions. This position ensures accurate and timely tax filings, payments, and reporting while assisting in the resolution of tax-related issues and maintaining compliance with applicable regulations. The specialist works closely with the Lead Payroll Tax & Compliance Specialist and cross-functional teams to maintain efficient payroll tax processes, support audits, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives. Responsibilities Support the processing of payroll tax filings and deposits across federal, state, and local jurisdictions, ensuring accuracy and timeliness. Assist with multi-state payroll tax operations for a large employee population, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. Research and resolve payroll tax notices, discrepancies, and agency inquiries in a timely manner. Prepare and submit required payroll tax reports, filings, and related documentation. Assist with new hire reporting, employment verifications, wage garnishments, and other compliance-related activities. Perform payroll tax reconciliations, including supporting general ledger tie-outs and variance analysis. Support year-end activities, including W-2 processing, corrections (W-2C), and related reporting. Assist with tax registrations in new jurisdictions and maintenance of existing tax accounts. Partner with payroll, HR, finance, and external vendors to ensure accurate tax data and compliance across systems. Maintain payroll tax records and documentation to support internal and external audit requests. Identify discrepancies in payroll tax data and escalate complex issues to senior team members as needed. Contribute to process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and internal controls. Monitor updates to payroll tax regulations and escalate potential impacts to leadership. Essential Skills Proficiency in payroll tax and payroll tax filing. Experience with multi-state filing. Strong Excel skills. At least 3 years of experience in payroll, payroll tax, or accounting. Thorough understanding of federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations. Experience working with payroll systems such as ADP, Workday, Ceridian, or PeopleSoft. Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a deadline-driven environment. Analytical skills with the ability to identify and resolve discrepancies. Strong communication skills, including the ability to interact with internal teams and external agencies. Additional Skills & Qualifications Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and reporting tools. Work Environment The position operates during regular business hours from Monday to Friday, and it is remote within the US. The Central Standard Time (CST) zone is preferred for optimal coordination. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fenton, MO. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $35.57/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
