Henrico, VA 23231 We are seeking a meticulous and proactive Bookkeeper and Payroll Specialist to join a growing and well established Tax and Bookkeeping firm. This role is essential in maintaining accurate financial records, managing payroll processes, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards. The ideal candidate will possess a strong accounting foundation who is eager to jump in in a fast-paced, client-focused environment. Experience with various accounting software platforms is expected. This is a great fit if you' re organized, detail-driven, and enjoy work where accurate results truly matters. Responsibilities Maintain complete, accurate books for multiple small business clients using QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Online accounting software. Perform bank reconciliations to ensure consistency between bank statements and ledger entries. Record journal entries accurately, including debits and credits, to reflect all financial transactions. Reconcile accounts receivable and accounts payable to ensure completeness and accuracy. Manage payroll processing, including calculating wages, deductions, taxes, and issuing payments in compliance with applicable regulations. Prepare financial reports such as balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements for internal review and external audits. Ensure adherence to GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and governmental accounting standards where applicable. Handle accounts reconciliation tasks regularly to identify discrepancies and resolve issues promptly. Process tax-related filings and maintain documentation for audit purposes. Support budgeting activities by providing relevant financial data and analysis. Assist with accounts payable functions by verifying invoices, processing payments, and maintaining vendor records. Skills and Qualifications Accounting degree required 4 or more years of experience in accounting, bookkeeping and tax preparation Proficiency in accounting software including QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, Quicken, or comparable systems. Strong understanding of corporate accounting principles as well as non-profit accounting practices. Knowledge of GAAP standards and governmental accounting regulations. Experience with balance sheet reconciliation, general ledger accounting, and double-entry bookkeeping. Familiarity with payroll systems and tax compliance requirements. Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail Effective communication skills for collaborating across departments and explaining financial concepts clearly.
