POSITION SUMMARY
The Patient Financial Services Specialist oversees hospital registration functions, ensuring accurate patient intake, insurance verification, and front-end collections.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES
  • Supervise and support registration staff to ensure timely, accurate patient registration and insurance capture.
  • Provide training, feedback, and scheduling for the registration team.
  • Assist patients with payment plans, cost estimates, and financial assistance applications.
  • Monitor front-end collections, documentation, and compliance with policies.
  • Address patient inquiries and resolve account or insurance issues.
  • Maintain updated knowledge of payer requirements, financial assistance programs, and registration standards.
  • Generate reports and support audits or process improvements as needed.
Supervisory Responsibility:
This role supervises registration staff and supports financial counseling and patient account accuracy to enhance the overall financial performance and patient experience.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Required Education and Experience
  • High school diploma. Preferred Education and Experience
  • Hospital billing experience, particularly in critical access or rural settings.
  • Billing or coding certification (e.g., CPB, CBCS, CPC) is advantageous.
  • Billing and Coding certificate.
  • 3+ years in patient registration or financial services; 1+ year supervisory experience.
