This role is essential in assisting patients with understanding their insurance coverage and planning for any balances generated from services. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, strong attention to detail, and a compassionate approach to supporting patients with financial matters.
Responsibilities:
Represent the practice in a professional and positive manner, ensuring a good service image and tone. Accept deposits for upcoming procedures and ensure all relevant documents are scanned into the patient chart. Educate patients on their insurance coverage, benefits, and how these relate to the services provided by the practice. Generate Good Faith Estimates for self-pay and out-of-network patients, ensuring clear documentation of projected expenses. Obtain payments from patients or offer the practice's in-house payment plan or facilitate applications for outside financing. Support patients with non-participating insurance carriers, negotiating one-time case agreements for services when needed. Review practice patient responsibility and self-pay accounts, making outbound calls to resolve any outstanding balances. Address patient inquiries regarding account balances and provide clear, accurate information. Follow up on broken payment plans, working with patients to resolve outstanding issues. Resubmit claims to insurance payers as necessary and update patient insurance information. Assign uncollectible accounts to a Collection Agency, following the practice's Payment Policy. Maintain a productive level of work that meets departmental goals and standards. Document all steps taken on behalf of patients within the practice management system.Qualifications:
Experience in healthcare finance, patient billing, or insurance verification. Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain financial details clearly to patients. Knowledge of medical insurance plans and benefits. Ability to handle sensitive financial information with confidentiality and professionalism. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Experience working with payment plans and negotiating with insurance carriers is a plus.
