Job Description:
The Patient Financial Counselor supports patients in resolving their financial responsibility for hospital services by identifying appropriate payment options, assisting with public assistance programs, and ensuring accurate insurance verification. This role serves as a key resource for patients navigating complex financial and coverage matters while promoting a positive patient experience and timely account resolution.

Required Skills & Qualifications:
Minimum of High School Diploma. Minimum of 2 years of customer service experience required. Prior experience in a hospital, physician office or healthcare setting preferred. Financial counseling, insurance verification or collections experience preferred. Knowledge of insurance benefits, eligibility verification, and pre-certification processes. Familiarity with Medicaid programs, Indiana preferred. Understanding of medical terminology, CPT and ICD coding preferred. Ability to effectively and compassionately communicate with patients regarding financial responsibilities, payment options and financial hardships. Strong interpersonal and customer service skills. Bilingual (Spanish) skills preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel). Numeric aptitude and proficiency with a 10 key calculator. Typing speeds of at least 35 WPM with accuracy. Ability to work independently while contributing to a team oriented environment. Strong organizational and multitasking skills. Comfortable working in a fast paced, deadline driven healthcare environment. Complete Indiana Certified Navigator training and certification within 6 months of hire and maintain active certification through annual renewal and continuing educational requirements.
