Job Description

Trust Officer Albuquerque, New Mexico Empire Trust, Inc. (ETI) is a state chartered independent trust company. It is licensed and regulated by the Financial Institutions Divisions of the Regulation and Licensing Department of the State of New Mexico. ETI performs trustee services by working alongside its client's professional service providers, such as financial advisors, CPAs, and attorneys.
POSITION OVERVIEW A
Trust Officer is responsible for all aspects of trust administration for the relationships for which it is assigned. A Trust Officer is a skilled specialist for fiduciary account administration including operations, investment oversight, distributions, and reporting. A Trust Officer has a thorough knowledge of trust and estate principles. The Trust Officer will serve as the primary point of contact for relationships assigned to it.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Tasks associated with acceptance, onboarding, administration and termination of trust relationships and estate settlements
  • Understands the needs and requirements to properly administer assigned accounts, including but not limited to governing instrument, cash requirements for distributions, and future liquidity needs
  • Handles all aspects of trust and estate administration, including: Works with outside advisors to complete tasks such as: § Work with financial advisor to establish a proper Investment Policy Statement for the account § Works with outside CPAs to ensure fiduciary tax returns are completed properly and in a timely manner.
o Works with internal Trust Administration Committee for proper guidance on certain courses of action o Marshals assets and arrange for their valuation as necessary, including ensuring proper paperwork is completed and verified for transfers, etc. o Works with third-party asset managers to ensure assets are properly productive or liquidating assets to add to investment portfolio o Works with the beneficiary to document a proper distribution plan for discretionary trusts o Reviews the preparation of estate and trust accounting before it is sent to beneficiaries o Maintains a general knowledge of tax rules o Maintains working knowledge of special regulations impacting trust administration, i.e. special needs trust, ILITs and charitable trusts o Performs account reviews and investments reviews o Identifies and mitigates potential risk issues; interacts with personnel pertaining to such issues o Processes, solves, and answers complex customer transactions, problems and inquiries
  • Treats people with respect, keeps commitments, inspires the trust of others, works ethically, and with integrity, upholds organization values of humility, availability and dependability; accepts responsibility for own actions
  • Shows respect and sensitivity for cultural differences, educates others on value of diversity, and promotes a working environment free of harassment of any type.
  • Follows policies and procedures and completes administrative tasks correctly and on time.
  • Performs the position safely, without endangering the health or safety of themselves or others and will be expected to report potentially unsafe conditions.
DESIRED CANDIDATE
  • Strong knowledge of personal trust administration and estate administration
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business or related field (advanced degree or certifications such as CTFA, CFP, or JD preferred)
  • 3-5 years of experience in trust administration, wealth management, or fiduciary services
  • Strong understanding of trust and estate principles
  • Excellent communication skills
  • High attention to detail and organizational ability
  • Ability to manage multiple client relationships with professionalism and discretion
