Job Description Summary:
Join the Villanova University Financial Wellness Education team as a Peer Money Mentor. Financial Wellness Education is a university-wide initiative of Villanova. This initiative is part of the university's strategic plan and provides financial education via seminars, in-class sessions, online course modules and one-to-one coaching for Villanova students. The Peer Money Mentor position will represent the Financial Wellness Education team across Villanova University. As a Peer Money Mentor, students will receive financial literacy training and certification, the opportunity for research projects, experience with one-to-one client meetings and practice with presentation creation and delivery. This is a part-time position, and the Peer Money Mentor will work a flexible schedule based on availability. All majors are welcome to .
Requirements:
Key Responsibilities:
Provide one-on-one coaching sessions with student clients covering various financial topics, including budgeting, saving, debt management, credit cards, student loans, scholarships, financial goal setting and use of the iGrad personal finance platform. Develop and deliver engaging workshops and presentations on financial literacy topics to groups of students and foster a positive and inclusive learning environment. Serve as an ambassador and actively help raise awareness about personal finances among students, encouraging them to utilize Villanova University Financial Wellness resources, tools, and interactive modules on iGrad to enhance their financial knowledge and skills. Provide guidance on navigating and utilizing effectively to support students' financial wellness journey. Maintain accurate records of student interactions, progress, and outcomes, ensuring confidentiality and privacy of personal financial information. Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information with discretion and professionalism. Collaborate with other Money Mentors, student organizations, and campus departments to promote financial literacy initiatives and events. Attend scheduled meetings and trainings. Complete certification - Fincert.org Certified Financial Peer Mentors (Fees will be paid by the Office of Professional and Personal Development)
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must be a Villanova registered student
  • Demonstrate interest in personal finance, budgeting, saving, debt management, and other financial literacy topics.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with and engage students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Empathy, patience, and the ability to provide non-judgmental support to students experiencing financial challenges.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to balance coaching sessions, workshops, administrative tasks and schoolwork effectively.
  • Enthusiasm for helping students succeed and a passion for promoting financial wellness and literacy within the campus community.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in financial literacy issues and topics (i.e., budgeting, credit, student loan repayment)
  • Comfortable leading presentations/workshops
  • Self-starter with ability to manage and adapt tasks while working independently
